In a world concerned with increasing carbon emissions,
power use and energy costs
the search for a clean renewable energy source is a search worth taking.
Bombora Wave Power recognises this
and it has developed a revolutionary, patented Energy Conversion system
that is able to transform ocean swell into clean renewable electricity
at a significantly low cost.
So Bombora is unique in several different ways.
One is that we convert that wave energy directly to electricity on board our device.
So that eliminates a lot of losses and it reduces our capital cost
so we don't need expensive pipes
or other means of getting that power back on shore.
The Bombora system is also made up predominantly of concrete.
It’s significantly cheaper than steel and sophisticated engineering solutions.
The Bombora system uses a lightweight medium, called air
and that allows us to respond to the waves motions
and it allows us to capture more of the wave's energy.
Located close to shore on the seabed floor and at a width of 80 metres,
the technology utilises a large, vee shaped, low cost energy harvester
and an 80 metre bank of diaphragms that sit across the waves.
These diaphragms then collect and concentrate the pulsing energy that
comes with every ocean wave into an incorporated air turbine.
It's this feature that enables Bombora to be more accessible to
and capture more of the water column's energy per unit deployed
than other existing wave technologies.
Because we’re located on the seafloor
we’re immune to large slamming forces of waves and large storm events
unlike other devices that are in the deeper water.
Each Bombora system has the potential to harness and supply
enough renewable electricity for 500 homes
or produce 1 gigalitre of desalinated water each year.
