Hi. I'm Scott for Expert Village and today I'm going to teach you how to make a compass
out of common household items. Next, the floating piece that we want is going to be ripped out
of a piece of tin foil. Now, the tin foil, of course has been around since the 1950s
after DuPont made it out of some sort of chemical concoction that came about. Now, aluminum
naturally occurs in the earth and what's great about it is that it is not magnetic. So, it's
really lightweight, so it will let the needle float on it and it also has enough displacement
that when we put it on the water, that it won't sink. So that's really good. So, now
that we have all of our items here, we'll go ahead and we'll get started. Be sure to
tune into the other segments of this series to make sure that you can properly follow
all of the necessary steps in order to properly finish this project.
