UK-based News of the World issues apologies for phone hacking. The weekly national newspaper
founded by Australian entrepreneur Rupert Murdock has issued a formal apology for unauthorized
access of cell phone voice messages belonging to various celebrities, politicians and possibly
even members of the Royal Family, which were retrieved to generate scoops for the paper.
On Tuesday, former news editor at News of the World, Ian Edmondson, and current chief
reporter, Neville Thurlbeck, were arrested in association with the case. An apology printed
in the newspaper stated, "Here today, we publicly and unreservedly apologize to all... individuals.
What happened to them should not have happened. It was and remains unacceptable." In addition,
compensation is being offered to those whose privacy was compromised.
Our thanks News of the World for your striving forward as a media group of integrity. May
ethical reporting continue to be the norm amongst journalists worldwide who are dedicated
to bringing accurate and timely information for the good of the public
