Nicole Rothbauer: My name is Nicole Rothbauer, and I am an intervention specialist and technology
liaison with Salem City Schools, in Salem, Ohio. I would like to share with you today
my top three Common Core resources to successfully help teachers integrate technology to enhance
the Common Core standards. The first website I'd like to share with you is one that is
called "interactivesites.weebly.com." This site is really amazing. It helps teachers
get the kids actively involved. There are tons of sites to choose from, depending on
the subject content area. This is the first step, really, to getting teachers to move
from a structured inquiry to open inquiry; which is at the heart of the Common Core standards.
The next website that I'd like to share with you is one that's called "jc-schools.net."
This is another K-12 site that encompasses engagement for the student in all subject
areas. The goal for the Common Core standards in science are generally to develop abilities
to do scientific inquiry, to gain understanding about scientific inquiry; and, finally, for
teachers, to facilitate students in acquiring deep understanding of science concepts, via
inquiry approaches. The websites here allow teachers to gain an understanding of how to
facilitate, and how to allow their classrooms to become student-led. The last website I'd
like to share with you is one of my favorites: this site is called "teacherstryscience.org."
It is science-based, completely inquiry-based, and gets teachers truly to experience how
the Common Core standards can look in their classrooms when the students are self-directed
and connecting explanations to scientific knowledge, while still communicating and justifying
those explanations. I hope you find these sites enjoyable, and I hope you enjoyed my
lesson today. Happy teaching.
