When everyone left their homes to take cover in the courtyard.
There were boys who said "there is a gay guy here.
He was the one who caused the earthquake. He did a lot of bad things."
I was afraid!
They even said they would kill all the gays that existed in Haiti. So we were forced to go into hiding.
On January 12th, because my house was destroyed, I was forced to sleep on the street.
And then some people came to harass us.
Not me personally but my girlfriend, she was assaulted. They slapped her. She was beaten on the street.
She was told "what does this all mean? you are only with women, that's just not done.
Women cannot live with only women! It was you who brought the wrath of god upon us".
1,2,3,4 5. We are five inside this tent.
As you can see, there are no walls, only a thin tarp that separates us from the others.
Every time we say something, others can hear.
There is no privacy. There is no room for real intimacy. You understand?
Especially for gays,
you cannot repeat this! My grandmother does not know I am gay you understand?
Especially for gays.
It was always difficult to be gay but after the earthquake it became worse.
Because everyone said down with the gays, down with the gays!
The Church encouraged people to attack homosexuals. They said that we were the cause of the earthquake.
And on the radio there were religious programs.
There were religious programs made that said that homosexuals were the messengers of the devil.
Discrimination based on one's *** orientation exists in Haiti,
We must recognize that the term gay has a negative connotation.
And especially after the earthquake we had the tendency to blame the homosexuals.
Because the people did not have sufficient scientific explanations for this phenomenon.
Even though this has progressively changed.
We do not hang around the camp. Gays don't often hang around the camp.
We keep to ourselves. We think they may throw stones at us.
We are extremely careful about that.
Do you know what she is saying? She says "masisi masisi" which means ***.
She sees me, my behavior, my style, my way of being,
and she says "It's the gay, it's the gay, he's with foreigners".
They have slashed this with a knife.
They have slashed his tent a number of times.
They have gone in and robbed all he had.
They stole the television,
His shoes.
You had a radio.
They threatened me, they threatened to kill me.
"Don't look at me or I'll kill you,"
"I'll poke your eyes out"
"don't look at me *** I'll poke your eyes out"
The fight will continue, we will not stop here,
because we want people to respect our choices and our *** orientation.
I 've decided to help women who are stigmatized and discriminated against. I'm committed.
I pretend that I am deaf,
I pretend that I am deaf, as if I don't hear anything. As if I don't see anything.
I just focus on me, my family and my home.
