The President's Commission on Human Relations and Equity
welcomes you to join in the dialogue and creation of the final version of the
Campus Diversity Plan.
The plan has been under development last academic year, revised over the summer
and in final stages this academic year.
We are using the framework elaborated in very practical terms
in the AAC&U
publication called
Making a Real Difference with Diversity.
The 21 member commission
has been diligent in its work to bring you a thoughtful plan
that will guide Fresno State's diversity efforts.
We have agreed on working definitions for Diversity,
Inclusion,
Equity and Cultural Competence.
The proposed Diversity Plan has four overarching themes:
Engage the campus community
in all areas and at all levels in supporting student access and success
at Fresno State.
Enhance the campus community with a broad awareness knowledge and rich
understanding
of enabling practices that will attract, retain and advance a culturally competent
campus.
Establish cultural competence as a rich learning outcome
for all students
and enhance support for faculty in their efforts to incorporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
into curricular,
scholarly and creative activities.
Fresno State affirms its commitments to sustain
a diverse community of learners and scholars.
The campus outwardly demonstrates the many facets of Diversity, Equity
and Inclusion
and communicates these characteristics as essential assets
for institutional excellence.
The campus is seen as a place where all community members feel welcomed
and affirmed for the valuable
contributions they bring to the teaching, learning,
research and service efforts
of the university.
