The government and the Korean Medical Association, who are locked in a dispute over the government's
plans to reform the medical sector, may begin talks as early as this Friday on calling off
a planned doctors' strike. The Ministry of Health and Welfare said Thursday
that the government and the KMA are currently in the process of mediating schedules for
negotiations. This comes after Prime Minister Chung Hong-won
proposed talks to find a compromise by March 20th, in order to avoid a full six-day strike
by KMA doctors, which was planned to begin on the 24th.
The medical association began its strike earlier this week with a one-day walk-out, in protest
at government plans to introduce a telemedicine system and to set up for-profit subsidiaries.
