[The sound of waves gently crashing ashore]
[A guitar begins playing slowly]
[Woman's voice, off] I longed to be in Scotland again.
The first time in years that I'd felt anything at all...
I longed to feel the sharp east wind on my face...
..and for it to pierce my heart once more with the joyful agony of my childhood.
My childhood...
...my wonderful, innocent, carefree childhood.
My little bed used to be here... right by the window...
and when I woke up I could look straight out into the cherry orchard... [laughs] Nothing's changed!
My orchard... my cherry orchard!
Come to life again after the darkness of autumn and the cold of the winter and happy again!
Oh, if only this dead weight in here would lift...
...if only I could forget everything up to now.
[Guitar now faster and more threatening]
May the Lord have mercy upon me...
[crying now] ...and forgive my sins...
...and let this punishment come to an end.
