Welcome Students. Today I will demonstrate how to use the web tool Socrative in your
classroom. Socrative is a smart student response system. It allows teachers to engage students
in exercises, activities, and short quizzes before, during, and after a lesson. The best
thing about Socrative is its portability. Students can easily sign up for an account
and use the app to participate in class from virtually any smart phone, tablet, or laptop.
The first thing you'll need to do is click on the teacher sign up button for an account
to sign up for a teacher account. This step is quite simple, all you will need is your
email address and a password and you
are ready to begin. Once you are logged in as a teacher user you
will see the main page. Once on this page you will see your room number. This is the
code you will give to your students to participate in activities and quizzes. In this case my
room number is 38743. Let's go back now to demonstrate how easily
students can sign up to use the tool. So let's go back and do that now. Now, my name is Suzie
Student. I'll enter the room number given to me by the teacher and I am ready to participate. This thing here
will make students think something went wrong but they are just waiting for the teacher
to begin the test. The teacher has a few options available on
the main page. The teacher can ask questions verbally and students can respond directly
with their devices or the teacher can create pre-made quizzes for students to take. In this case let's choose Space Race.
This allows students to compete for the right answers in the fastest time. So we'll go ahead
and click on Space Race. Take a look at the room number and the number of students in
the class, 1. Click on select a saved quiz, in this case select demo quiz. Select the
number of teams, in this case 2. Auto assign the team colors to speed up the process. and
click next. Now, I want to add a second student on my mobile device with the name Sammy Student,
so I have now added another student to our classroom and now there will be two people
competing in our space race. So if you go up to one of our students here,
start with yellow, so this student was Suzie Student and the quicker they can submit their
answers, ok "Which of the following president's was NOT a K-12 or college teacher? That was
Ronald Reagan, next questions, let's see where we are, yellow moved a bit, now the red student.
Next question, Socrates, he is a philosopher. So let's look at the screen and you'll see
the plane start to move whenever they get a correct answer and depending on how quickly
they answer all the questions determines the winner. So that's really the end of the activity
and then you have a couple options. You can either email the report to yourself, you can
also download the report which I'll show you now. The report looks exactly the same as
the email report that you would receive depending on how you want to store the report. The report
will give you a complete analysis of how the students did on the test. And that is Socrative
in a nutshell!
