Hi, I'm Mike Mugford. I Pastor Friendly Street Church of God here in Eugene, Oregon. Been
the Pastor here for about twenty years. And I've been asked to talk to you for a minute
about my hardest day. A couple of different days come to mind, but I was the Youth Pastor,
the Senior Pastor had just left for Australia for a month and I didn't know very many of
the older folks in our church. But the day he left, one of the Matron Saints of the church
had a cerebral hemorrhage, close to death. I'd never been in a hospital before. I went
down to the hospital to make the call, walked into her room, they'd already shaved her head
to prepare her for surgery. I prayed quickly with her. I don't know that the walls were
going in and out, but that's what I felt. It was hot in the room. I got out into the
hallway and leaned against a wall. A nurse came by and said, "are you okay?" I said,
"I don't know." She said, "let's get you seated and let's get you something to drink." When
I talked to the Pastor a couple days later when he called from Australia, I said, "don't
ever do this to me again. Do not leave and leave me in charge of this because I am not
prepared for the experience." The next day real quickly, her husband who was a very quiet,
very shy man, and I sat together for ten hours while she went through surgery and maybe said
ten words to each other the whole day. It was like pulling teeth to try to carry on
a conversation with him. Those were tough days.
