My name is Shaun Smith, I'm seventeen, I live in Litchfield in Staffordshire,
I'm studying for my A-levels at school, and I'm singing.
At school, Shaun is a star on the rugby pitch.
I play, er, rugby three or four times a week. Erm, I really love it ...
And Shaun's rugby mates have come with him today to support his true passion: singing.
I must've been singing for, like, well basically, as long as I can remember.
I've done little things but I've never sung at anything this big.
It's all well and good my nan saying that I'm good, but she's a bit biased.
I think my mates and stuff are, like, the most important thing.
And think that's when I get more nervous, 'cause I could get ripped to shreds.
So, desperate to impress his mates in the audience, and the judges,
it's time to see if Shaun has got the talent to make it all the way to the Royal Variety.
It'd be like an absolute dream come true, like, singing in front of the Queen – you can't get much higher.
Er, hopefully, today is the, you know, the first day of the rest of my life.
Hello.
Hello.
Who are you, please?
I'm Shaun Smith.
What's your act, Shaun?
I'm singing.
OK, and what's your ambition - to sell records? To win this com...
To make other people happy by... through singing.
Nothing to do with the money, Shaun?
Pardon? Nothing to do with the money? Oh. I could do with a new car, you know.
OK, when you're ready.

The crowd are on their feet!
Shaun, er, I genuinely wasn't expecting that.
I'll tell you who you reminded me of, is, Mick Hucknall but good looking.
Good job he added that on the end.
And a personality.
Actually, I have to say, you've got a very, very authentic-sounding voice as well.
And you didn't make that sound 'karaoke'.
I think you're really good.
Thank you.
Well, I've gotta say, I thought you were really very, very good.
Yeah, so did I.
My only criticism is, you know, take your hand out your pocket. Believe in yourself.
Oh, for God's sake.
No, because his body-language is saying: "I'm crap",
Oh, Amanda, let him, let him put his hand ... And his voice is saying: "I'm brilliant".
I am saying, believe in yourself because you're good.
No, that's part ... I am saying, believe in yourself because you're good.
I am saying, believe in yourself because you're good.
No, that's part of his appeal. Your body-language is saying something else.
Your body-language is saying something else.
That's part of his appeal.
Arguing again.
Simon, yes or no?
If Frank Sinatra was up there now, you'd be: "Oh, I don't like your tie".
It's a 'yes'.
Thank you.
Piers?
Definite 'yes' from me.
Thank you.
Let's make it three yesses.
And it's a 'yes' from me, Shaun.
Well done, matey.
Thank you.
Congratulations!
How was that?
Scary!
I loved him. I liked the fact that he chose that song.
So distinctive. Totally agree with you. I loved him. I liked the fact that he chose that song.
I loved him. I liked the fact that he chose that song.
So, Shaun may be about to hang up his rugby boots but his mates and his mum coudn't be prouder.
Well done, well done. We're so proud of you. Well done.
