one aspect of the boeing triple seven crashes san francisco airport the asia
are not airlines flight two fourteen coming in from seoul korea to san
francisco over the weekend
was about the pilot incharge and ait i really don't want to turn this story
about pilot league on group
i don't want to turn it into uh... let's attack the pilot type of story let him
ruin his life more than a dollar viously already is going to be affected by this
some reports are pointing out hey he had only forty three hours of flying time on
the boeing seven seven seven
he'd never
uh... uh... landed by himself but had flown to san francisco
previously a little bit of a conflict on some of those reports
most of those forty three hours were in a simulator
i don't actually want to focus on that because we don't know
specifically
what exactly in terms of pilot error if anything caused this crash but the story
that this brings up to me is one that if you've ever seen the documentary flying
cheap and i've heard you to check it out it's definitely on netflix uh... maybe
it's online somewhere and i don't know
it really outlines how
the number of hours for american airlines and remember this in this is
this is a she honor this is not an american airlines is not a u_s_-trained
flight crew
but for me the story is to think about
much less experience is now required verses thirty years ago
to be d captain of some fairly sizable
jets
and in some cases only ten or fifteen percent of the hours that were once
required
are now required louis and to mean that is that is certainly a concern and
that's that's hopefully a story that we can take from this age on up to fourteen
crash
and really analyze the american airlines and pilot experience there
it even scarier when you think about what airlines are doing to save costs
and uh... tucci doubt when it comes to proper maintenance and repairs to
airplanes as well yet i mean i i've done quite a bit of reading into as before
this because of a previous crash that took place also because of being too
slow on arrival
i did quite a bit of research into what goes in turned into pilot requirements
and maintenance requirements
and it's just it's just kind of the norm that a lot of u_s_-based airlines
including united but which i know specifically more about his life line
united pretty frequently or have at least over the last couple of years
the deferred maintenance the vinod planes just like cars
have a maintenance schedule
where after certain number of flying hours and or a combination of time past
certain maintenance has to be done
and it's completely normal and regular to defer a what is not considered
critical maintenance meaning the plane won't fly without its some extent
to just the first and deferred indefinitely because any hours at the
planes are flying the airlines losing money
and admit decision on a set to fourteen incident
does not appear within the camp a failure
but again is that is that something that is comforting to individuals at the same
time those we can't forget that flying is still very very safe
arianna of course and driving
really isn't even a statistically chances of getting interested in a row
you consider how many are happening every day across the country it's insane
absolutely i i was thinking when i when i read about the story
this kind of debate about whether it was pilot error mechanical failure
if you learned that there is a crash that took place because of mechanical
failure
verses pilot there
which would make you less likely to wanna fly on that airline ticket
i would have to say mechanical error
really why's that
um...
you have to assume if they're mechanically reserve the plane that has
been acquitted and that other planes have been neglected but it's pretty easy
for humans to make a mistake or have some type of problem
and in the boat in most cases that with most airlines most pilots are pretty
competent
and it's rare requirement error it ends up
in a situation like this but at the same time louis i think that's kind of a
point if they're is pilot air
wouldn't that call into question what is the experience training and background
of the pilots i'd understood i think if they are i really don't know the answer
i would actually defer to the audience on this is pilot air
or in a crash
or mechanical failure in a clinic rash
but which would be most concerning to you for flying on that airline and let
me bring up another thing mechanical failure could be related to the airlines
maintenance staff but it also could be a problem with the manufacturer of the
plane
and that may actually be more difficult to parse out what it not
yeah iodine that that's a whole nother story uh...
who knows what's happening over there
but we do know that
those companies usually charge top dollar
and if something goes wrong
uh...
you know it's usually not because of uh... incompetence
for or uh...
well are with the that usually not because of income
alright certainly the airbus eighty three eighty issues that are better than
going on with the batteries are certainly a concern
we will continue to come
