today we have the two thousand four(2004) Chevy impala
with a worn out water pump that's right here
Its go a bad/damage seal
so we have to replace the water pump with this one
looks at how the water pump will actually look when it's on the engine
block
and you have
one(1) tow(2) three(3) four(4) five(5) six(6)
seven(7) eight(8) bolts holding it in place
four of these bolts are half inch (1/2) bolts like this
now it's important when you replace
this four bolts
right here
that you wire brush the thread
and you applied
this sealing compound on it this is call a teflon sealant .it made by Permatex
at the white paste which you apply on the thread
and then we will install the water pump(belt driven)
the rest of the bolts are ten millimeter that you really don't need to put a
threat sealer on them cause they don`t go into the engine block like these
These bolts extend all the way
in to the engine block
In the water jacket
so it's very important to put a sealing on this thread
When the engine get hot(temperature)
You more likely to get leak(coolant)
that's why you need to thread sealer
this is our water pump
removing the water pump is not that difficult
it's something that should take maybe a half hour to an hour
this bolt right here is going to be an issue for you
in order to remove this bolt
which is on the back here
all the way by the power(hydraulic) steering pulley
you need to remove the power(hydraulic) steering pulley or the power(hydraulic) steering pump
now it's easier to remove the pump cause the pump have two half-inch(1/2) bolts
which you can get access through the pulley
you could you see their holes in the pulley
you would just slide you half inch(1/2) socket in
half inch(1/2) socket in
and released the two bolts is located at one(1) o'clock position
and the other bolt is of seven(7) o'clock position
so you will
turn the pulley
to line it up with the bolt
take the bolt out from the power(hydraulic) steering pump, Lay the pump back
then you would get access to this bolt behind
water pump once you have all the bolts off
then you should remove your water pump,Now another thing. before you take the belt off
by releasing this tensioner, you should
release
the four eight(8)-millimeter bolt that on the water pump pulley
with this
eight(8) millimeter socket and ratchet
just release the bolt and you could take the pulley off.
and the belt
the fifty(15) millimeter wrench place on the tensioner we like this
depressed back
and you'll be able to re-leave and take the belt off
and you'll be able to take off the pulley off the water pump shaft hub
Now if you choose to remove
the pulley from
the power(hydraulic) steering pump which has to be removed
to get access to this bolt
you have to use this tool this is the tool right here
to remove the pulley from the power(hydraulic) steering pump
this two half shaft
and it will go on
the pulley to get remove, but i don`t
recommended that you remove the pulley because its very time consuming .A lot of
work
you're better off just releasing the two half(1/2) inch bolt
and lay the pump back
another thing we need
when you take the battery out
You will have to take out the container right here
remove your battery cable
disconnect the Fuse Block/box harness.
