I officially declare this fantastic new facility open.
QUT STUDENT: Hi STEM-campers. We are so excited that you've joined us here at QUT for the
first ever Vice-Chancellor's STEM camp of 2013.
TRACEY SPICER, AWARD PRESENTER: The winner of the QUT Outstanding Young Alumnus Award
for 2013 is Dr Daniel Timms. Daniel is the inventor of the revolutionary BiVACOR titanium
heart, which has been internationally lauded as the basis for future artificial heart design.
JACK ANDRAKA: Imagine: if a 15 year old who didn't know what a pancreas was can find a
new way to detect pancreatic cancer, just imagine what you could do.
OFF-SCREEN SPEAKER: This is QUT's 'Agbot'. It's an agricultural robot that's designed
to transform agriculture.
DR ERNEST FOO: One of the things here with QUT is that we're working towards trying to
develop ways to detect and defend against these kinds of attacks.
PROFESSOR STEPHEN KAJEWSKI: Good morning, all. My name is Stephen Kajewski and I'm the
head of the school of Civil Engineering and Built Environment at QUT. Welcome to Brisbane.
DR STEPHEN HUGHES: In February we visited the department of Geology and Mines, one of
the government departments of Bhutan, and built a miniature version of the siphon that
could be used to drain the glacial lakes.
