MR LUTHER: I think it was really interesting tearing a lot of contestants down last year
and I enjoyed it, and I think I want to do it again, so I joined
MR KISHAN: And I believe the 3 of us want an equal opportunity in that, so that's why
MRS D' CRUZ: Yes, and I saw Jonathan (Mr Luther) having too much of a good time
so I said I have to get a piece of the action, right?
And why did you join in?
MR TAN: Why just the 3 of you?
I'm here to represent the minority in the school
MRS D' CRUZ: What minority?
MR LUTHER: What minority are you talking about?
MR TAN: Let's not make it so explicit
MR KISHAN: I see
MRS D' CRUZ: Oh what? The only Chinese?
MR KISHAN: The 3 of us have no idea what you are talking about
MR TAN: The minority of the panel
MRS D' CRUZ: I'm the minority of the panel. I'm the only female
MR LUTHER: Eh hello, I'm the minority. I'm the only foreigner here
MR TAN: So what are you?
MRS D' CRUZ: Are you a minority in any way?
MR KISHAN: I don't know what they are talking about
MRS D' CRUZ: So we are all happy to do this, yes
MRS D' CRUZ: Constructive
MR LUTHER: I think
MR KISHAN: What is the difference?
MR LUTHER: There is no constructive judgement without being mean and cynical
MR KISHAN: Exactly
MRS D' CRUZ: Exactly, I would have disagreed
You have to be critical to give good criticism that students can take away with them
and try harder the next time
MR KISHAN: So watch out, all of you watch out
MR TAN: I feel very left out
MR KISHAN: Should we switch positions?
MRS D' CRUZ: Maybe we should switch positions. It might help a little
Why don't we just shuffle a little bit?
I will let you sit with the majority
Maybe now he is more comfortable and we will manage that.
You can hold the mic
MR TAN: I think for me, I am going to be a very mean judge
You know like the students who know me should know that I am very mean, yep so
MRS D' CRUZ: Ok as I said earlier,
I want the whole package, the real deal
Good looking guy, well presented, sings beautifully
enunciates clearly
MR KISHAN: Might not be a singer though
MRS D' CRUZ: I said sings beautifully
Has a great voice, otherwise, what is he doing in Rafflesian Spotlight?
MR KISHAN: He could be juggling
MRS D' CRUZ: Ok, then do it well, and do it with finesse, and do it with style
That's what we are looking for
MR TAN: For me, I think the perfect contestant should be somebody who can
engage the audience and basically just attract my attention
And also for, I think you can sing better than me, then
My standards are quite low
So yea, if you can sing better than me, probably you will be the perfect contestant
MR KISHAN: Like that it will be a competition for what?
MRS D' CRUZ: You know, so the best thing to do is to get him to sing, so that we can hear
benchmark and then if they can't sing better than him, better watch out
MR LUTHER: I think my perfect contestant would be someone who
I have nothing to say to, nothing "constructive" to say to
MR KISHAN: Well for me, I guess, the perfect contestant would be someone
I mean, it's called Rafflesian Spotlight right?
Someone who deserves to be in the spotlight, for all the right reasons
MRS D' CRUZ: Thank god you said that
MR KISHAN: For all the right reasons
MRS D' CRUZ: Yes, thinker, leader, pioneer and performer
MR KISHAN: Yea, someone who really owns the spotlight
That to me will be the perfect contestant
MRS D' CRUZ: Yes, watch out
You can't do these things, can't meet the requirements
MR LUTHER: Oh, and I have a special word of caution
If you are dancing, make sure nothing is jiggling
MR KISHAN: No, any songs that you should not sing
Anything by Nicki Minaj, I don't what to hear that
MRS D' CRUZ: Justin Bieber, I don't want that
MR KISHAN: Justin Bieber, I really don't want that
MR TAN: The Fox
MR KISHAN: Yea please lah, it's a good song
It was great, you would just kill it
MRS D' CRUZ: Glad we have very strong opinions
MR LUTHER: No Miley Cyrus either
MRS D' CRUZ: Yea, we don't want them licking things, sledge hammer
MR KISHAN: Yea, you would be a wrecking ball
MRS D' CRUZ: We don't want to see what should be kept close
MR LUTHER: A lot of fun
MR KISHAN: A lot of fun, for us, more than anyone else
MRS D' CRUZ: Yes for us, I mean we hoped to be entertained highly
We hope to entertain as well
MR KISHAN: We'll do our best
MRS D' CRUZ: And we hope that perhaps out of the whole Rafflesian Spotlight thing
we might discover some new talents to become Singapore Idol maybe
That kind of standard
MR TAN: I would also want to see more than singing and dancing
Because for the past few years, it's just singing, dancing
Hopefully this year, we have some hidden talents
like people who can juggle very well, or magic shows
or just entertain on stage
MR LUTHER: Yea, comedians
MRS D' CRUZ: Stand up comedy
MR KISHAN: Diversity
MRS D' CRUZ: Yes, I must say that this year
I have actually during our teacher's day concert
I think there is a very very likely candidate who is joining it
MR KISHAN: I don't remember
MRS D' CRUZ: And I have also another student who I went for CIP with
and oh man, he can sing, he can play the guitar
but he shouldn't be pressured into doing anything
because I think he might join, so we will let him perform for us
So yea, I think there will be students who will definitely meet our standards
Because we are not unreasonable, not by any means
MR TAN: Yea, our standards are just a bit higher
MR KISHAN: Not unreasonable
MRS D' CRUZ: Not unreasonable
MR LUTHER: Not really
ISAAC: Just a bit
MRS D' CRUZ: Just a bit
