Yes! You're at the right video!
- Hey guys! I'm Pedro Bricio - And I'm Babi Dewet
And today we'll be talking about a really controversial subject.
Nipples!
Pronnounce!
And this isn't controversial only between Kpoppers,
Actually, that's something controversial inside a lot of fandoms!
For example, when I was a Blink182 fan,
I've heard a lot of people being criticized for calling them, "Blink Um(1) Oito(8) Dois(2)"
instead of 1(One)82(Eighty-Two)
But it's not that people can't say One Eighty-Two.
Don't know, might be possible. But does that make her less fan than you?
- No. - So, we decided to make this video
to discuss that, and to show our side. For example, me, a kpop fan,
And mine's, not as fan as her.
Portuguese, as you might know, derives from Latin.
Just like a lot of languages around the world, like English.
We have an alphabet with letters from A to Z.
With characters, signs, that means these letters.
But Korean language was created a LONG time ago... Around year 1400 or something.
Unlike Japanese alphabet characters, Korean has consonants and vowels,
And that doesn't mean it's the same as our alphabet.
It has NOTHING to do with our alphabet!
Have you noticed how K-idols speak english words?
For them is a little more complicated, because they don't have phonemes for F, L, V and Z.
So, words like "Love", for them is kinda complicated to pronnounce.
That's why a lot of them say something like "Lobe"
But that doesn't make 'em wrong, does it?
No!
Read this first one here, Roberta!
And this other one
And the last one
Between languages, it's clear the difference on the pronnounce of some letters.
Difficulting the learning process for us and them.
So, sometimes, even when a person knows the right pronnounce, she can't actually say it right.
Think about an example from a member of Girls Generation.
One of them is named "Tiffany", that we pronnounce here almost like the same in English.
That's because "F" is on our alphabet, and on the english one too!
But, in Korea, because of the lack of this phoneme, they say "Tippany".
But that doesn't mean they're saying her name wrong, does it?
- And what does that mean? - I don't know!
- Take a hint! - Salmon
Salmon!
Of course there are a few exceptions. We're not here to generalize or anything.
Whenever I find a new group, I always try to learn the group name, lyrics and its member's names.
Like SHINee. We've made a video where I had to say the name of one of their members.
named Jonghyun.
I've spent a lot of time working on how to pronnounce it, and to date is kinda hard for me to say it.
And it's not because I don't know how to say it, it's just that it's not easy for me.
- And what does that mean? - A crazy boy!
Another great example was when I was at my cousin's US house and showed her Gangnam Style's Video.
and she just loved the song, but couldn't sing the chorus.
And that's not because she didn't know how to say it, it's probably because the rhythm
- of the language and the words... - ... is different from the ones she's used to.
Means... Silly hands!
Some Korean artists, while visiting countries like Japan and China,
They adapt their names, according to these places' language.
For example when MBLAQ came to Brazil, MBLAQ is pronnounced as "M BLAQ".
But even they've been fooled, because here people screamed their name like "EME BLAQ"
They weren't speaking it wrong, just adapting the name to our language.
Right? For example, on China, if you search there's a few videos from SHINee there,
And they really change a bit of their name according to the Chinese characters.
I'm an assiduous viewer of Korean variety shows.
And always thought I was speaking correctly SuJu's lead name.
During these shows, they speak really fast, and whenever I read the name on the english subtitles,
It was Lee Teuk. After a while saying it wrong, thinking I was right, a friend of mine corrected me
And told me it wasn't the way I was saying. It was said like "???????"
Or something like that, because even after that my brain couldn't memorize it.
It's still kinda hard. Whenever I see "Lee Teuk" my brain reads the "L" together so...
it's kinda complicated to delete something you've been used to ever...
since you were a kid. It's a little complicated.
A lot of fans might end up pronnouncing their idols or musicians' name wrong.
But not because they want it.
It might be the word that is difficult, and nobody should be judge because of that.
And neither considered "less fan".
And neither considered "less fan".
We say a few words different from Koreans for a few reasons.
like accent, cognition, motricity, and other things audiologists could explain better than us.
And of course that doesn't make us less-fans. Ask the audiologists.
And let's not make fun or bully our Korean idols when they're speaking in english, ok?
For example..
Well, and if you've enjoyed our video, don't forget to hit like and subscribe to our channel.
And today's question is: Which word in Korean you've looked and thought you'd never say it?
It can be an Idol's name, a song title... Whatever. Anything!
Bye!
