This might just be the oldest new car to be shown at the 2013 Geneva motor show. And while
you've never, ever seen it before it's actually already sold 700,000 models worldwide. The
Ford EcoSport is a compact SUV, so it rivals the Nissan Juke and the Vauxhall Mokka. But
don't be fooled by sport in the name.
it's certainly not sleek or low profile like a sports car it's big and it's chunky despite
the small proportions. The EcoSport has been built and developed entirely in Brazil and
it's South America where it's sold in massive numbers. But don't be fooled, it is no Samba
stunner. The front end is got very similar lines to the Cougar.
It's got this raised, sloping window line and it harks back to some of the old school
original off-roaders with spare mounted on the back and a side opening tailgate. Now,
it shares the same platform as the current Fiesta and lots of the parts actually shared
from the Fiesta and the B-Max. Now both of these are decent cars to drive, so that could
turn out to be a real positive for this.
From launch, it'll only be available with front wheel drive and the engine lineup includes
the fantastic 1 liter EcoBoost with 125 brake horsepower. We've tested ready in the Focus
and in the Fiesta and liked it in both. The Ford EcoSport won't be going on sale until
2014, and expect to pay around a 5000 pound premium over a equivalent fiesta, but it should
sell decently there's loads and loads of compact SUV's being launched here at Geneva motor
show and it's the fastest growing segment at the moment.
