I: We were talking about how there is pressure on children to perform at school
and parents always keep saying that their children don't study. But it also happens
that there are children who perform very well at school, they get very good marks
but in the outside world their self-confidence is not upto the mark.
What do you think could be the reasons behind that?
Sameer: The reasons behind them could be two. No.1 that they have given too
much importance to school-education or to being a book-worm. Again I'll say that
Knowledge is important, not marks. The second more important reason could be
that they lack exposure. We teach a concept called 'UBU atttitude'. We all live
within our comfort zones and till the time we are in the comfort zone, we are very
confident. Like the students about whom you mentioned, they are very comfortable
in their school. They are considered heroes. Even in their house, they are
kings. However, when they leave those comfort zones, they lose their confidence.
What is an interview? An interview is a situation outside of their comfort zone.
They have never faced such a situation herebefore. THE ANSWER LIES IN
ALWAYS DOING THINGS WHiCH ARE OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE.
Always do those things which we know will bring progress but which we are
scared of doing.
Shall we show show them a clip about this?
I: We'll show the clip but before that there is a caller. Dilip Khanna from Ghatkopar
is calling.
Dilip My son is 22 years old. and he has started a company in partnership with
three friends. Now, in our house no one has any experience about business etc.
Mine is also a single-owner business. What I fear is whether the other two
partners will actually help and develop the business or will they cheat my son.
How do we find this out? *** a business is a skill but you also need to
have the skill in this too, yes? What do we need to do about this?
I: We'll answer this question but after a short break.
Welcome back to Hello Sakhi after the break. Dilip Khanna from Ghatkopar had
called us and asked a question.
Sameer: Yes, I'll answer that question and then we'll go to the clipping.
His question was that his son is 22 years old and does a business with 2 other
people.
Let's answer his first main question as to whether his partners will cheat him or
not? This is very difficult to answer. That depends on each one's personality. What
we can do is to take care. There are two answers to this. One, that there should be
a great deal of trust between him and his partners. How to develop this trust?
While doing business, there should be transparency in everything. That means
that it is very necessary to share everything with everyone. I would say
that firstly, one should not meddle with the others' work. They should divide the
work like one could look after Production, the other Sales, the third Administration
etc. So, they should divide their work. However, while doing this, if any situation
arises, then they should have transparency. "Don't you trust me?" - this
shouldn't happen. The answers should be given honestly. 2nd I feel is that it is very
important to make a partnership agreement. In a partnership agreement
we write who is investing how much money, who is going to do what work,
how the profits will be shared but we normally don't write that if tomorrow
some problem happens and the business is to be closed down then how the losses
will be shared , all this too needs to be written. So that everything is very clear.
The more the transparency in the business, the better the business will run.
Thirdly, all three partners should be equally competent because in a
partnership problems normally occur when we feel that we are contributing
more, the other person doesn't have the knowledge. If the contribution of all the
three is not equal, there could be problems in the business. But otherwise,
world's biggest partnerships have succeeded eg. Larsen & Toubro, they
were two different people. Lots of partnerships have flowered.
Hewlett-Packard (HP) whose computers we use, Hewlett is the name of one
person and Packard is the name of the other person. Hence. partnerships can
definitely survive.
If the business is new, it takes 3 to 4 years to settle. Hence, please don't put
any pressure on your son to earn form the first day itself. Maybe for 3 to 4 years
he may not be able to bring in any money into the house. But that is what business
is all about. I feel you shouldn't be too anxious. Trust your son. If after doing all
this, he fails, still don't put any pressure on him because life is a learning lesson.
Failure comes. He should learn from this and using this lesson, he should go
ahead and that is more important. If you do this, then in the long term, success is
guaranteed.
I: Giving encouragement is the duty of the people around us. Moreso of the family.
The fact that he is doing something is in itself a big thing.
Let's see the clip.
I: Where was this happening
Sameer: Dadar station
This clip that you watched now is the answer to the previous question about
what to do if the children are fearful and shy, what to do if they have to go for
interview. I'd said that you should get out of your comfort zone. This boy is my
student. He is very passionate about the philosophy given by Shivaji Maharaj.
We say that teach people public speaking. He went to Dadar station
wearing clothes like Shivaji and shared Shivaji's philosophy with everyone there.
On the station, in the train, everywhere he kept saying his speech. The
self-confidence that he got is undescribable. If such a boy goes for an
interview tomorrow, do you think he will feel fearful? The thoughts that we have in
our mind, our values, our principles, don't fear to express these. Don't be scared to
live these. Because I feel that our uniqueness is due to these. And if we
bother about what happens these days, how the world functions, it's a bad time
etc. then our self-confidence becomes less. So, if children keep doing such
things, what they feel from their heart, what is appropriate, our conscience tell
us what is right and what is wrong, if we keep doing the right things, our
self-confidence will increase.
I: Even the fun that we get from doing things we like improves our
self-confidence.
