How's your dental insurance? Well mine is pretty good. I like it a lot and I've had
it for about 25 years and It's been a great plan. Sometimes you have to watch out for
the dental offices you go to. I went to the dentist last week and went to Gentle Dental
a local dental office nearby. I went in there and was quite surprised and amazed at how
much I felt like I was at a used car lot. I went on there because I was having some
tooth pain and you know, I wanted to go get that checked out. So I go into the dental
office, they take the x-rays, I see the dentist and the dentist checks things out and looks
at everything and checks it out and tells me I need a deep tooth cleaning and irrigation
so he can see just how much damage might be done to my roots of my teeth. Although he
said my teeth looked good, they just want to be able to check it out. So I'm like...
what about this pain? He says, yeah we can check it out but you really should do this
first so I just kinda was goin' with the flow. So this guy sits down in the office next to
me, there is a half wall and a pass through window so you could hear and see whats going
on in the next room pretty easily. This guy next to me has a different issue but he has
an issue with his teeth and a concern and I hear this same, sounds like the doctor talking
to me all over again, except for he is talking about a different issue that he should wait
on until after he gets the deep teeth cleaning and irrigation done. So while I'm waiting
for this, the doctor asked me to wait there and someone will come in and finish me up.
So this lady comes in and sits down and she pretty much gives me a sales pitch on how
much it's gonna cost me, it was like $900 for the deep cleaning and it was $800 or something
for the irrigation, and I'm like, I really want to get this other stuff done, and I'm
not as worried about the cleaning, and she says that the doctor recommends that you get
this done first. OK, well how much is that? She tells me and I ask her well, how much
is covered by the insurance? She says that it is not covered by the insurance, so I'm
like....well, great. Bottom line, I've had that insurance for about 25 years and I actually
sell that insurance, and it's a great insurance plan and I have the top plan available and
it shouldn't cost me hardly anything. Yet the only 2 things that wanted me to do right
away are the 2 things that aren't covered on the insurance, nor were they covered on
the other gentleman insurance cause I could hear him. Like I said I felt like I was in
a used car lot, she came in and gave me that pitch, then she goes right in the next room
and gives him the same exact pitch....same exact thing, you need a deep cleaning, you
need the irrigation, no it's not covered by your insurance, I'm like WOW...I could tell
that this guy was as frustrated as I was. So anyways, bottom line, I called in and requested
my x-rays...I actually made my next appointment and then I thought about it and I'm like...
forget it, they were trying to sell me on something that I really didn't want. And if
they hadn't have tried to sell me anything and then the guy next to me too, I may not
have been as uncomfortable, but I felt like I was just being run through a mill. So anyways,
bottom line is the insurance that I have is good, it's very good but you need to watch
out for the dental office that you're going to and each one, I'm not saying Gental Dental
is bad, I'm just telling you what happened to me at this particular Gentle Dental. So,
do some research, find out who your dentist is, make sure thay do all of the procedures
in house because that always costs more if you have to go out to a specialist. So make
sure they do all the procedures in house, but, try and get a personal referral from
someone you know. That's what I've done is my next door neighbor happens to have run
a dental office for the last 23 years or something close to that. I didn't go to her first because
I didn't want her to feel like I was asking for a favor so I just went to the local dentist
right here. This dentist is a little farther away but he's only 15 minutes away so it's
no big deal and I have the connection there now, I've got someone there that I can trust
and I've known her for years. And I know she's not gonna let anybody take advantage of me
in that respect but from what she was telling me, they won't. And I even showed her the
paperwork that I got from Gentle Dental and she said you dont need that stuff. Anyways,
bottom line, watch yourself and just like anything, like I said, this was surprising
to me the whole dental field has gone to a new level, they are up there with used car
lots in my opinion. So, watch what you're doin', make sure that what they are recommending
you have to do you really need and also, if it's not covered by the insurance, chances
are they might be trying to make some money off of you. I'm not saying that's what Gentle
Dental was doing, I'm just telling you my perspective. So, alright, you have a great
week, month, year, take care of yourself and I'll see you on the next video. Bye.
