4 Possible Reasons Why Change Has Eluded You If you know what could be causing a problem
you can * Watch out for it
* Plan success in spite of it, and * Ensure successful home time management in
your life Not Committed Enough
Many times we think we're committed because we feel fed up but we really aren't... we're
just really, really frustrated and then it (unfortunately) passes.
Until you get to the point where you're actually fed up, overflowing, can't take it anymore
permanent change is harder to come by. Sometimes you'll hear this referred to as
"hitting rock bottom." In a lot of life situations we have to hit
that rock bottom before we get the internal fortitude to force change... no matter what
it takes. Not Making Big Enough Changes
At my house things would slide so gradually that I wouldn't even notice that my daughter
had "suddenly" (yeah, right!) gotten to where her ratio of time spent on chores to preferred
activities was 1:4. In other words for every one hour she spent on chores she spent 4 hours
on skating, watching TV, the computer, or such.
Changes would include increasing the amount spent on chores while decreasing the amount
spent on preferred. This is also where the commitment mentioned above would be needed
because... I promise... you're going to hear some whining.
Not Sticking With One Thing Long Enough Using the above example of increasing/decreasing
if that lasts all of one day not only will you not see permanent change you won't even
see semi-permanent change. You have to have the mindset of "This is the way it will be
from now on... period, point blank, end of discussion"!
Trying to Change Too Many Things at Once Another reason why change may have eluded
you could be because you're trying to change too many things at once. There are many problems
with that including: · You run yourself down mentally
· You get discouraged because instead of noticing progress in one area you focus on
failure in another · You can't keep up with everything: the
new chore lists, the new way of doing XYZ, the new schedule
These are just 4 possible reasons why permanent change has eluded you.
