Hello, this is Lucas Palmeira from Imaginando and I'm here to give another tutorial on DRC.
Today I'm gonna show you how to make the bass sounds from the song 'Singularity' by Stephan Bodzin.
Since today we have 3 sounds to make, let's get right into it...
Okay, so I'm going to open the first DRC
It's on a default patch like we normally use it
I'm gonna start by raising [OSC 1] to maximum
Change the performance mode from POLY to MONO
Okay, and now
Let's go to the first envelope generator [EG 1] and raise the DECAY and SUSTAIN to maximum
And on the second envelope generator [EG 2] let's raise the DECAY to maximum
Drop the SUSTAIN (0.2)
And the RELEASE should be okay.
Now on the filter:
envelope generator 2 - modulating the cutoff should be about right,
Let's just drop it a tiny bit to (0.44)
And now let's drop the CUTOFF and RESONANCE to zero
Okay like this
And now let's give it a little bit of DELAY
Turn on SYNC and change time to 1/4
Now we give it a little bit of FEEDBACK (0.28)
And now let's raise the AMOUNT to (0.2)
Now for some reverb, let's raise the DECAY to (0.77)
Let's also drop the DAMPING to (0.2)
And now let's raise the AMOUNT to (0.3)
Now let's give it a little bit of chorus also,
ON and drop the rate to (0.06)
and the depth to about 3
Ok like this
Ok first sound is done. Let's go to the second one
Another DRC...
And now let's raise the MASTER to maximum and the first oscillator should be Okay.
and let's raise the second to (0.23)
Change the first oscillator to a sine wave
Now go to the second oscillator put it on the same octave and change it to a square
Like this now, let's go to the filter and drop the envelope generator 2, modulating the cutoff to (0.3)
Now we drop the CUTOFF to (0.174)
And the resonance to about zero
Now we go to the first envelope generator and
we raise the ATTACK just a tiny bit to (0.029)
DECAY to (0.25)
We put everything about the same
now we got the second envelope generator and
We also put [ATTACK] to (0.029). It's basically the same as the first one
Okay, and now we turn on the arpeggiator
And we raise the rate to 1/16
Like this, okay, and now we go to the last sound
which is the main lead,
Okay, first change performance mode from POLY to MONO
We go to the master and we raise the MASTER to maximum
PRE-GAIN to (0.7)
Oscillator one to maximum and oscillator 2 to (0.65)
we drop one octave on the second oscillator
We go to the SUB oscillator and change it to a sine wave and raise one octave.
And now we go to the AMP and we raise the SUB to (0.7)
Now we go to the filter,
We drop the CUTOFF to (0.158)
Leave the RESONANCE at zero, but we change the mode from L4P to L2P
Now we go to the first envelope generator and
Everything should be okay. Let's just check [EG 2] We have to raise the DECAY to (0.77)
SUSTAIN to (0.2)
let's now give it some delay:
We turn the SYNC ON, we change the time to 1/4
FEEDBACK to (0.178)
The CUTOFF raise it to (0.738)
And the AMOUNT to (0.120)
Okay
Finally for some reverb
Give it (0.12) AMOUNT
Let's give it (0.7) DECAY
and (0.7) damping
And I think this is it...
Let's now listen to the melody that I've recorded before
one thing that I noticed was that I still don't know why but I will definitely check it out is that
for some reason Ableton is turning off the automation,
when I Tried to automate the oscillator to sync.
you will have this file with all the automation so you can really dig into what I've done to try and recreate the song
I'm not going to go into it now, but what I can say is basically I've
I've automated all these parameters here and
You can check them all out
Later on and try to see what you can do for yourself. So
Let's now
Try and listen to what I've recorded before
And I put it here. I'm gonna put this closer here just wait a second
Okay, so now we will listen and I will turn on the automation so everything goes right
So
we will be listening in any second now and remember to download the Ableton file in the description.
And this is it. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. Don't forget to subscribe
Imaginando's YouTube channel, download the Ableton session for this tutorial, and we will see you again next week guys
