Child protection agreement reached with Darfur group. With mediation assistance from Switzerland-based
Center for Humanitarian Dialog, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has signed
a historical agreement with Sudan’s Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) to end the recruitment
of child soldiers and protect the well-being and education of the children affected by
conflict in Darfur. UNICEF has been granted unimpeded and regular access to Justice and
Equality Movement locations, persons and relevant documents, while JEM has also agreed to transfer
all children under 18 to UNICEF’s care in facilitating their reintegration.
Our earnest accolades, United Nations Children's Fund and Justice and Equality Movement for
your peaceful agreement to prioritize child protection, and many thanks, Center for Humanitarian
Dialog, for your assistance. May the youths of Darfur and the world be graced with abundant
security, comfort and love
