Everybody's Free To Kill Creepers - by Stephen Johnson
Members of the greater Minecraft community. Kill Creepers.
If I could offer you just one tip for the future, killing Creepers would be it.
The long term dangers of allowing Creepers to live has been proven by scientists, whereas
the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own minecraft experience.
I will dispense this advice now.
Enjoy the power and beauty of your builds. Oh never mind. You will not understand the
power and beauty of what you have built until it has been blown up.
But trust me. In years to come you will look back at screenshots of your old bases and
recall in a way you can't grasp now, how much creativity went into them and how fabulous
they really looked.
They're not as lame as you imagine.
Don't hoard blocks for the future; or hoard, but know that hoarding is as useful as trying
to build a computer using redstone.
The real items you're apt too need are ones that you left back in your supply chests.
The kind you can't live without but didn't bring with you.
Do one thing every game that scares you.
Vid.
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts.
Don't put up with players who are reckless with yours.
Mine.
Don't compare your builds with others.
Sometimes they're better. Sometimes they're worse.
The game is long, and in The End, they won't help you beat the Dragon.
Remember the gifts you receive.
Forget about the Griefing.
If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old screenshots.
Throw away your stacks of cobblestone.
Farm.
Don't feel discouraged if you don't know what you want to do on a server.
The most interesting players on my server didn't know when they started what they wanted
to build.
Some of the most interesting Ops I know still don't know what they'll be building tomorrow.
Go to Minecon.
Be smart with your diamonds. You'll miss them when they're gone.
Maybe you'll Grief. Maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll be an Op. Maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll build a giant *** and balls at spawn and post videos of you being banned
from the server.
Whatever you do, don't forget to thank the Admins or the Server Owner either.
Their contributions are gifts and so are everyone else's.
Enjoy your tools. Use them every way you can.
Don't be afraid of using the wrong ones or what other people may think if you do.
They're the greatest instruments you'll ever have.
Dance… Even if you can't bend at the knees or turn your blocky-*** torso.
Read the wiki… even if you never remember the recipes.
Do not watch Griefing videos. They will only give you bad ideas.
Brother and sister together will make it through.
Someday a spirit will take you and guide you there.
I know you've been hurting, but I've been waiting to be there for you.
And I'll be there just helping you out, whenever I can.
Get to know your neighbors.
You'll never know when they'll leave your server for good.
Be kind to new players.
You were one once and they may be with you for a long time into the future.
Understand that servers come and go, and a precious few will hold on.
Work hard to bridge gaps in geography in real life because friends you make in-game can,
with a little effort, become friends you have out of game.
Play a PVP server once but leave before it makes you hard.
Play a creative server once but leave before it makes you soft.
Win.
Accept certain inalienable truths. Creepers will Grief.
Enderman will take your blocks.
You too will tire of this, and when you do you will fantasize that when you first played
you didn't mind filling in holes, fixing buildings, and keeping the world from falling apart.
You did mind.
Don't expect anyone else to help you.
Maybe you have a community.
Maybe you have friends you play with, but you'll never know if either one will lend
a hand.
Don't mess too much with redstone, or by the time you've built that computer, your friends
will wonder where you'e been and whether or not you still play.
Be careful whose Let's Plays you subscribe to, and be patient with the channels do you
choose to follow.
Let's Plays are a form of nostalgia. Making them is a form of sifting through your crazy
ideas, throwing them out there, and hoping someone will benefit in some way from what
you've been through.
But trust me
on the creepers.
