My name is Manuel Mendoza, and I teach Ancient Civilizations Honors and AP World History
to 9th and 10th grade students.
I teach because I've been called to impact the world for Jesus Christ.
I teach because of children like [Anonymous] who, despite going through many hardships
in his life, such as being homeless, living under a negligent father,
and experiencing the recently painful loss of his mother due to cancer, has endured and
triumphed
to become not only one of Pioneer High School's most accomplished students, but also on the
verge of becoming a student that is going to be accepted to ivy league universities
in order to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor to aid those that are suffering from
cancer.
I teach because of broken children like [Anonymous].
Whose parents simply want nothing to do with her.
Her face reflects that of a defeated and shattered soul, like so many students at our school.
Despite her unpredictable attitude, and unfortunately predictable sadness, she is one of the strongest
freshman students I've ever had the pleasure to teach.
My joy in teaching this young lady comes through my continual efforts to make her laugh, smile,
and realize that there are actual people in the world that truly love her for who she
is.
I am passionate about teaching because quite simply, I'm a history nerd.
But also because educators serve...educators serve as God's agents of change in the lives
of people.
Why? Because we have the truth. We have been empowered by God to impact children's lives
and serve those who are like sheep without a shepherd.
