Hi, Today on Ursula's Real Skillz, I am going to mend a sock. Sewing is really simple. I'm
not doing anything too complicated. This will just give you the basics of how to thread
a needle and sew something. I really like these socks I'm mending, I prefer to mend
things over buying new stuff. So here we have, this is probably the most complicated, I have
all this thread here, pick a color that matches the item you are going to repair. And I've
also got a, if you need a thimble. I have a nice needle wheel here, different sized
needles are in each of the sections. You can make your own sewing kit, collecting the useful
items. And like I said, threading the needle this is the hardest part. Now for beginners
we do a double thread here and we are going to tie a knot, just because we are gonna tie
a knot, we are going to sew it well enough that we shouldn't need the knot, but it is
good for beginners to have one. And that is just a simple, I like to double knot it depending,
thinner needles will make a smaller hole, therefore the knot doesn't need to be as big,
the bigger the needle the larger the hole. Obviously. So I am going to stick that there,
it's nice to have a pin cushion or something. Which is the holey one? I believe this is
the sock with the hole. No, no. I really like these socks. Ahh, so that is a nice big hole.
And then what we are going to do is start on one side, and I could do, inside out actually,
yeah lets go inside out. So any of the extra string will be on the inside. And then I want
to kind of connect this, so I am going to start here, you basically just thread through
and then pull, the longer the, sometime that will get stuck, you don't want to have too
much, very basic stitching, that will get stuck if you make the knot too long, or the
tail of the knot, I should say, too long. We got that, now we are gonna connect those
two sides and then we have the first hole, go like this, you can use this same, I don't
even know what this stitch is called there are all different types of stitches. But you
know for a mending job basically these are just my favorite socks, you know when the
zom-poc hits and you can't buy socks anymore and taking them off rotting zombie corpses
is not your top-choice, this will be what you do to keep your feet dry man. And honestly
we live in a culture, we just waste *** all the time, these are good socks, really good
socks, and you don't have to be a perfectionist you know it's not this complicated thing that
somehow your mother did but you'll never figure out. It's very simple, like I said I'm not
a perfectionist so some of these stitches are kind of messy, but you get the general
idea, there is, hold on here, we are like 20 seconds away from no hole. Okay so there
we go, no hole, no what I am going to do is stitch back over one more time, and, get right
here, where the original is, and because I'm not a pro, I'm not a seamstress, I'm just
a girl who likes her socks, I'm gonna just stick this in the couch, here. Why not, knot
this, it's just for good measure, it shouldn't come out but why not make a knot. And, we're
going to cut that, and ba-bam, turn the sock inside out, and hole be-gone. Okay so that
is it for today's Real Skillz, obviously that was very basic but I just want you guys to
know that sewing is for everybody, anyone can do it, you get better the more you do
it, but for patch jobs like this it doesn't have to be perfect so, give it a shot and
thank you
