Hi guys! This is Avery, your host for today's Capstone Experience.
We are here at the 42nd Annual Kentuck Arts Festival in Northport,
only ten minutes away from our campus.
Kentuck is an organization that celebrates arts
and every year they have a festival celebrating folk artists
and musicians from all over the place. It's been rated one of the top ten
art festivals in the US.
"I'm Ab the Flagman. I'm probably one of the most patriotic artists
in the world" - "That's cool. So what do you use? Do you use wood or metals?"
- "Yeah, its all wood. I do bronze as well, I have pieces made in bronze, but they aren't here."
Kentuck has a little something for everybody, whether its good music
gorgeous art, or amazing food!
Guys, this is 'alligator on a stick!' Like, where can you get this from?
This is cool, and very very hot!
- "You guys are students, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Alright, cool, tell me what you think about Kentuck so far."
- "It's been fun, we've been here since 10 o'clock in the morning." - "Yeah, it's been pretty cool
there's lots of things from
photographs, to wood art, and there's actually a lady here from London."
- "We use Wisteria, kudzu,
and also we use grape vine
some people call it bullet vine."
- "Lampworking is manipulating glass tubing for anything hollow and glass rods for anything solid
and combining them into a piece. So a lot of them require
blowing and sculpting." - "What do you think about Kentuck?" - "Well this is my second year here
and I've been to a lot of other festivals and this one is a really good blend
of contemporary, with folk,
with fine crafted items. So everything's
well made it seem, but it's a good mix."
- "We are a student organization on campus. We're celebrating our 40th anniversary.
The journal has poetry, fiction, non-fiction, comics
arts, and everything between." - "So where are you guys originally from?"
- "I'm from Texas along the coast." - "What?!" I'm from Texas! How about you?"
- "South Georgia." - "South Georgia!
Wow, that's cool, that's cool."
Well, that's Kentuck for you. It's one of the dozens of events that you can check out as a UA student."
Thanks for watching the Capstone Experience. I'm Avery,
and I'll see you soon!
