>> Hi my name is Tim Cork.
I'm the President of Straight A's, Inc.
Our focus and what we do our company is we focus
on leadership development; sales training
and we also do executive coaching.
I'm going to talk to you a little bit about networking;
or what I'll talk to you really about is what I call netgiving.
And I like to do things in three's so I'm going
to give you three areas that I think are really important
when you're thinking about this.
The first most important thing
when you're networking is get excited about you
because if you don't get excited about you
and you don't feel good
about you then why should I feel good about you.
You are your brand.
You've got to think about your brand.
As long as you live on this planet,
this little planet called Earth, you are your brand.
One of the big things
when you're branding yourself is what do you talk about?
What's your 30-second elevator pitch
and people will hear this all the time,
how do you articulate what you're all
about in a very short period of time.
Why should it be about 30 seconds?
Well it's kind of interesting.
The average human attention span is about 30 seconds.
Think about advertising, think about commercials.
How long is the average commercial?
About 15 to 30 seconds
and believe me they've done their homework.
They spend billions of dollars on commercials;
they've done their homework.
When people ask you about you,
you have to articulate it quickly, you have to come
across professionally, you have to feel good about you.
The second thing to think about when you're networking
and connecting with people,
I use this thing called netgiving.
And what netgiving is, is it takes the work out of networking
and it's the attitude of what can I do for you.
If you go into situations with the attitude of what can I do
for you, how do you think it's going to go?
I know how it's going to go it's going to go really, really well.
You know what Tim if I'm always give, give, give, give, give,
give, give, how do I get?
Well you know what giving starts the receiving process.
There's a great Chinese proverb and the proverb goes
like this, "Life is an echo."
What you send out comes back.
The third thing and the final thing I want to leave you
with today is ask great questions.
You've got to ask good questions.
You see if you ask questions, you get people to talk
about what's important to them.
What's the most important thing to anybody out there?
They are. What's the thing that they like to talk
about more than anything else?
Themselves.
So do your homework.
Figure out.
Do your research.
Google them, figure out everything around them.
Where are they?
Compliment them up front but find out really,
really quickly ask them good questions,
get them to talk about them.
Those are some good ideas.
Remember in 3's.
Thank you for your time and have a great day.
