Well, in the last couple of years,
I had a few health problems that I didn’t actually plan for.
And when I am feeling healthy now,
I know how great it is,
how important it is for me to feel healthy.
I have a lot more joy in my life.
I am being able to be more active,
so being healthy is tremendously important.
I think it is really important to create a healthier University community,
because it will help all of us in terms
of being able to be as productive and as happy as we can be.
It also is important because the healthier we are,
the better we can contain healthcare costs
that are rampantly going out of control across the country,
and we need to do that, to make sure that we have money,
to do all the things that we want to do here at the University.
There have been some remarkable changes.
We’ve got some lunch time physical activity programs; yoga, body sculpting,
we’ve had morning programs at 7 to 8,
so those are just part of the work.
We have also been seeing the emphasis on walking more.
We have a number of staff who take lunch time walks and lunch time swims.
So, I think that we are starting to have that kind of positive impact.
In addition, I have seen a number of staff stop smoking
in anticipation of the campus going smoke free,
so I think we’re getting a number of different issues all at once.
I do a few things to stay healthy.
I bike around campus.
When I can’t bicycle, I walk a lot.
I climb the stairs, some.
I am going to try to do that more.
I will climb the stairs more often,
use the elevator less.
Because I don’t do it enough,
and I know that it’s healthy for me.
I will climb the stairs!
