collected for three from here with believable to the year twenty eleven
projects and greg howard
harriet and fill in and doing great you have trained
uh... so many notable fighters
first aid here john jones the name a few there's one tactic that you use that
i've noticed
in the your flights uh... while you are in the corner
you call them either first and lastname now i i mean like my dad would call me
uh... richard straw on that i would clearly get his attention i understand
that that is a warning your tactics correct
it is and uh... i i learned it from my mom actually who would use that to get
my attention uh... and works well you know when you hear your full name me
it's just kind of reflexive it kind of focus and so
uh... i try to paper people down with that kind of psychological approach of
of just speaking to them like they need to listen to me right now
mhm have you ever have you ever like flap the fighter in the face or anything
like that to wake him up in the corner
not on the corner i havent on some financial slap before we go out there
like all kind of hit them over to to wake him up a little bit
uh... but in the corner you don't really need a slap on uh... if you can't wake
him up
by using the tools of you know psychologically just got a motivating
him to get hit again to get a deal with their day just got it for five minutes
and other it's not really going to do anything when you book flap along with a
four and a bracket
it's all forehead the back and uh... have broken my hands too many times so i
used to finance
when developed enrolled champions um...
uh... butts
which is good the drama out of the way that i know you have been asked many
times rampage jackson has called you and your team the most boring team out there
right now why exactly do you think
he has fired at you guys like that
uh... well we went through a phase where off you have my top guys were inside
were having a hard time fishing fight so what i did the combat that as i came out
with a comprehensive list of our entire team especially in the u_s_ team which
is quite large
and show that we had the highest finishing percentage by far we took the
most bonuses meeting by tonight's mission of the night knocked out of the
night uh... we took all those by far so i a at one point that was kind of info
gets a like if you know you are
you know when in the name of selling jackson's geyser boring but uh... the
staff still holed up with that and that arguments pretty well
debt even as as the as late as last year about justice
last couple weeks we have both uh... ultimate fighter winners come from my
gym they both finish their fights in the first round that we took every single
bonus that night that was offered and then the uh... next
we john jones saudis i was able to uh... it's a dot michie doubt the second round
so if you still kinda beating that uh... drum
not much support for your frm but road back in march shiver rashad evans had
some
performance rewriting on his forever i decided to leave growing because i felt
like he didn't have my best interest anymore
greg is not the same coach use too
the
he has called you jim commercial and transient
do you think that he's being a little over the top but these comments and
maybe uh...
playing up to the media or is there something could there be something there
uh... you know we didn't grow and and uh... you buchanan that's true uh...
but it still is really really tight group of guys are not seem like a mass
exodus from my team or anything like that com
and uh... i am sorry feels that way certainly uh... his teammates don't seem
to feel that way uh... it and uh... i don't feel that way i mean
anticipate
door couldn't have been a big dork so i don't really feel like i've changed that
much of sure i have but i don't feel that way and uh... yeah i'm just i'm i'm
sorry that uh... they feels that way i certainly don't feel that way about him
i love the guy
so would you want to see him for a conference with the building and uh...
interesting fun
it is going to be in a justified when it happens on the you know uh... it's a
it's a fight they don't want to see i never want to see my friends fight each
other and and i still consider rashad on my part friend
so uh... yeah you know it's it's going to be a uh... it's gonna be a great
fight i think but uh... yeah it's it's not something that i want to see avenue
protocols in place now switched never run into that situation again for
instance that she has been carlos prolly gonna end up fighting very shortly and
uh... carl's comment that is and uh... we're all set up now all ready to take
care of that but no drama
do you think rashad perceives you as a friend as much as you perceive him as a
friend
i think that's a question for shock you know i don't know what my hope so but
uh... you know i'm not sure you know a lot of writers and fans have uh... had a
mixed professor john jones they love
his ability to fight the kids they love what he does
uh... but they have a question of how he presents himself and uh... if he is just
playing up a nice guy image what would you say to those people
bahut high i'd say the really region their like if you r_t_c_ can't really
put a starting down and you've gotta find something to dislike about the guy
i guess the image would be the the thing to do
but john jones is what this means nights
guys i've ever met he's an awesome guy i've been awesome human being
valued takes care of me in the in the whole coaching staff you really really
well so
i'm i'm not sure where they're getting that i i i guess the only thing i can
think of it is is that you really like he's just
usually through fires you so yummy so talented you can't really salt and
there's a remarkable actors care uh... with for the drummer for with
competitive
if you are trying to get a guy into your gym
or uh... yet they're trying to get a guy endeared him to you recruit them view
grow after them and say hey you know
we see a lot in new we want to train you or do they necessarily come to you live
for the that advice on how to fight
uh... you see that come to us now uh...
they uh... bailed so you know they have interest in being a part of your gene
sometimes a mutual thing right well you know i wanted to work with you too
uh... but most of the time at this point it's uh... people coming in and wanting
to join the team and so uh... we try to evaluate ito if it is going to be a good
it because you know we're not our team isn't for everybody and a we have to get
along really well did the number one battle is former out you know you want
make sure everybody gets along well
before money before anything else you have to be friends and uh... as long as
they fit in well and that they're talented and and on the same sheet music
so to speak uh... you can join
greg you're very well-known uh... trainer in
u_s_t_ you have many top-notch fighters
what is your motivation
my motivation is kind of twofold one is to reach my potential i i just want to
be the best
martial arts instructor coach whatever you want to call it uh... that i can be
so much reaching my potential
is is number one
uh... made in west today
also with that is taking care of my it my troops you know i want to make sure
that i bring out the best known that their dreams come true that they are
able to uh... uh... really uh... kind of pursue what makes them happy i want in
power them as much as i can so life for me it's all arbitrary you know you pick
what's important in your life and and those the two things that i'm pick that
are important
um obviously outside my family and and so on that is because it can really
important to everybody
outside of the fighters that you have trained who were missing
that is possibly the best fighter of all time
i'm completely biased on that question so you know it's although we start
listing out my guy
eyes i'm i'm like so bias is no i don't know anybody outside of your team not
and not one guy at okay
and the problem with that is that i see all these guys every week seven
i do that they see you next week there are gonna beat me up
fulfillment name
allah is greg let me ask you you know i've seen a lot of your interviews
new
view reference boxing a lot and to allot of and the many people in the u_s_
thepeople the fighting people vote
that's the price is them and that catches them off-guard
how do you feel about the rivalry between a boxing
and and and then
well for me there is no rivalry you know i'm not a promoter i don't have to deal
with that reality of the games previous two different sports it's like hockey
baseball
uh... and i really enjoyed boxing especially uh... in the high-level
boxers from throughout history
and i try to learn from everybody that i can learn from and you can learn a lot
from
the old boxes on tape even into boxes it might not necessarily immediately the
relevant to what we do it in the may if you look deep enough a lot of times
there's something there for yourself
i have a big boxes that his boxing fan and uh... i i think you can learn from
that ended the choose you could be a fan of both are not mutually exclusive
how badly do you want to see you then say you're huge boxing fan how badly do
you wanna see flloyd mayweather face many patio
it'll be a very interesting fight you know i uh... packet was a great case and
and lloyd mayweather as amazing defense a truck shoulder defense really really
good so it'll be interesting battle style cd comes out on top there for sure
laughing it off base here but did you think that for no other sprung from the
courtroom is one thing
she'd rather did you think they've got to protect yourself at all times at the
way it goes
it's hard to say that you know you'd right after the really you have to take
his answer i guess but uh...
is one of those things that
the in the moment you get caught up in their not necessarily always going to do
that but you just get caught up in the situation and unless you've experienced
that's really hard to describe it it seems like such common sense all he
wouldn't do something like that
sometimes in a moment though you do crazy stuff and so uh... you know it's
one of those things that
do you have to take it with a grain of salt either way cuz you never know
who dances out of your having your fighters
who would you say is the hardest worker who really comes into the gym then
you know had has a uh... has a tough mentality when training for a fight
but they don't look at the leader of the past and that there are also everybody's
got records but
i think the real tone is set by teach our dean what am i a longest students
and uh... he's he's a guy that had everybody looks up to because he's in
here just you work so hard at dot he sometimes industry really sets the tone
when you have a uh... mixed martial arts jim or any group of people really
setting the culture is so important because that cultural
will come to be there harm you were saying you depending on the situation
and uh... you want to set a culture of toughness of hard work ethic of
technical proficiency and and that's really important key thirteen really
helps out setting that told for our team
let me ask you just a few more questions gregg uh... author a lot of people have
this perception
uh... of ultimate fighting
cage fight again they think that it is incredibly boulder and it is way too
violent and it is just to guys going in there and having a three five
uh... what would you say to those people that have such a negative annotation
with the ultimate fighting
i though that's a complicated question because a lot of that is is perception
vs reality the first thing you want to do is you want to look at the stats
and you can google armor do whatever you want to do but we actually have an
amazingly low injury rate uh... boxing football even cheerleading a lot of
these sports that we watch every day when you watch football
i mean some people might feel that way but it doesn't get that same visceral
reaction right
that's way way way more dangerous than what we do you get more concussions
morning injuries
uh... we're much safer than boxing so statistically
were much safer than that perception double-digit you guys fighting education
that's what it's really about people are afraid of that that seems very scary to
that because fighting is scary advocates are scary and i would say you know
combat with an open mind because you really is of beautiful beautiful sport
has a beautiful art and it's one of those things that the more educated you
are about it
the more beautiful becomes and uh... i would say that you know mark twain said
when when he was studying the rivers a kid was so mysterious and beautiful to
him
and awake i figured out how the river working he was able to pilot had lost
some of that that lost her son about beauty
and i always found the exact opposite i think the more you get educated about
something the more beautiful at the constant definitely that's the case with
mixed martial arts if you get a chance and just educate yourself a little bit
like and you see that the chess match is going on in there and it's a real chess
match and an high-level maneuvers eats is phenomenally it's it insisted nature
skin single her
self-promotion time greg god you interact with the president for american
a five your honor
on yeah i have a uh...
much at whether because i don't think anybody share what contra stay about
world but uh... we definitely have a place for the fans wanna come uh... and
uh... i i think it's taxes and the made but
i'm not one hundred percent sure are
i'm pretty sure it is packing them in my country i think you're right on the path
bavaria about fifteen person of the paper products
uh... who do you have another book coming out as well
but not at the moment i have a checkbook so we've already read which is great
guys in and if you want education self on night on you know being a a more
informed and reaches one oh it's all about
both of those books give you a breakdown of what's happening in the cajun at how
cool it is and the strategy stuff to this military strategies that you can
see my alive in a cage and and so on and so forth
and i'm planning probably about five or six years the which i had strategy on
companies uncompensated sorry strategy book
about these ubiquitous principles defied all throughout art that and how they
applied to the martial arts
the very philosophical
greg jackson greg thank you so much for the time you promised me will you
promise me that you will come back on the field later in the year
i will come on as many times you need me brother no respect
all right greg thank you very much talking to
that is our
