Hi everyone!
We’re here again on No Alvo,
with today’s video about instinctive archery.
A different archery style.
And I will also show this other bow that I have,
one of the take-down kind.
So, now I’ll show you this bow.
Gotta say that it was crew’s idea to put it on the back,
because it’s not practical at all...
This is an instinctive bow, made of wood.
But it’s the kind of one that we call take-down.
Because it is divided into two parts,
just like my olympic recurve.
Which are: the riser, here in the center,
and the limbs, that attach to the ends.
This is the main difference between this and the longbow.
Because the longbow is a single piece of wood.
The advantage of the take-down is that you can take it apart,
and it gets easier to carry it for trainings or trips.
The main difference between this bow and the olympic one,
as it is very easy to see,
is all the accessories and aids
that the olympic has that the instinctive doesn’t.
The olymic bow has stabilizers, sight and all,
while this one is just the bow itself, the string...
... and this opening here for resting the arrow.
And that’s all about it.
It a way more traditional shot.
Many people might say that this is the essence of archery.
In instinctive archery, the accessories we use a very different.
But there’s a big flexibility on what you can use.
I can use the quiver the way I use it in the olympic style.
I can use the finger tab, the armguard, everything the same.
But, you can also use this glove to pull the string.
It is better when you think that you don’t have a loose piece.
It is always very tight to your hand,
you don’t even feel that you have something in your hand.
You might use a back quiver.
The arrows
are different, with longer vanes,
and the vanes are made of a different material.
So, everything is more flexible.
The combination of things that you might use
for shooting instinctive archery is much bigger.
Well, we came here to shoot a few arrows.
And before, I want to tell you about how we aim with the instinctive bow.
Actually, we don’t aim.
As the name says,
we’ll use our instinct to know where the arrow will hit.
There’s no sight here, like in the olympic recurve.
So there’s no reference that we can take at the time of the shot.
It is like when you’re throwing a rock or a ball.
You don’t really think about the muscles you’re going to use,
or the movement you’re going to make.
You just look at where you want to hit and throw.
With the instinctive shot it feels the same.
You just look at the target, focus on it, and shoot.
Now, I’ll shoot a few arrows to show you.
Let’s go get the arrows.
As you could see during the shots,
the targets are on the ground.
They’re not on a stand, suspended.
It’s because, in instinctive shooting,
we’re all the time simulating a hunting situation.
You’ll never find an animal on a stand,
in the woods, ready to be shot.
That’s why the targets are on the ground.
And it is very common that archery fields for instinctive shooting
to have some features like woods,
a lake, plains, a gorge, open fields, different heights...
All of this, for simulating a real situation.
Because on the olympic archery you have all the targets aligned,
a completely plain field... This is not a real shooting situation.
It is nice that the instinctive has got a lot of different competitions,
and all of them are within what is called Field Archery.
In Field, sometimes we have that target
formed by circles with different scores for each of them.
But it can also be a target that is a picture of an animal,
and the various parts of the animal have distinct scores.
And there’s also when the whole target itself is animal-shaped.
Like a sculpture of a deer, a bear, birds, rabbits...
It’s really fun.
And it might look like these arrows are made of wood,
but actually they’re made of carbon and this is just paiting on it.
The vanes are all of synthetic material.
The arrow is made for just looking like it is traditional.
Although you can buy arrows that are really made of wood,
that have goose feathers as vanes.
But it is much more delicate,
more expensive and has more difficult maintance.
So, everyone, just before we finish the video
I want to tell you for sure that this bow is not olympic.
Nearly all the times it is shot in competitions named Field.
The International ArcheryFederation (FITA),
nowadays called WA (World Archery),
which is the one that organizes the olympic competition,
and World Championships, World Cup, of the olympic recurve,
also organizes Field competitions.
But there’s another international body, called IFAA,
International Field Archery Association,
and it organizes a lot more Field competitions.
With traditional, bowhunter, instinctive, longbow, whatever it is.
So it is nice to know the difference.
IFAA makes more and bigger Field championships.
As always, all the informations are there on the description.
Now with the link of the IFAA website.
That’s it for today. Hope you liked the video.
For who doesn’t know and hasn’t liked it yet,
I have a Facebook page,
