ALAN: It started out just by a dream, and it became something that's real today.
CHILD 1: This is my garden design. I drew my tree with apples and flowers...my beautiful flowers
CHILD 2: A lot of trees.
CHILD 3: Then I would like to have right here bluebonnets cause bluebonnets are the flowers of Texas.
ALAN: We were getting ideas what to do to the library like right here, cause there was
nothing left. All it was was twigs and everything. So then after a while we started thinking
let's build a garden, and how we're going to make it.
SCOTT: We started by interviewing a group of schools. Maple Lawn was one of those schools,
and we were so impressed with them we selected them for partnership, and then we applied
to the Healthy Children Healthy Families grant with Blue Cross Blue Shield, and we were lucky enough to receive that.
MICHELLE: Blue Cross wants to stand with our communities in sickness and in health, and
this is really one way in which we can stand with them in building a healthier community,
building healthier neighborhoods, building healthier schools.
ADELA: Our students will be the major benefactors for the new garden here at our campus.
It will be an outside learning environment for them to be able to grow, and be able to think
in a different environment other than the regular classroom.
ALAN: You're going to love it and we worked hard to get to here, and I hope ya'll love it.
