>> Court: I'm here at Blue Monkey Bicycles near Salt Lake City, Utah, and I'm with the
owner, Dwayne. Hey Dwayne!
>> Dwayne: Hello
>> Court: And, you know, check it out. We've got a few Dahon folding bikes here we're just
going to go over the differences and, kind of, the different models.
>> Dwayne: So our tagline is "car replacement therapy" and there were a lot of areas where
we were thinking, okay, it'd be great if you're running somewhere in your car and you need,
you don't want to have bike rack, you want something -- small bike. So we started looking
into folding bikes and chose to carry Dahon as a nice augment to electric bikes. I've
already had a few people come in that fly. Like throw it in the back of their Cessna
kind of thing.
>> Court: Cool
>> Dwayne: So the main difference, they start out around 500 bucks and they go up. And the
main difference is frame style, component tree, and then you get up to the higher end
ones and you have disc brakes, and they're lighter.
>> Court: Wow
>> Dwayne: So that's they're main difference. But they all fold up about the same and just
a nice quick way to get you out, just another way to get you out of your car.
>> Court: How much does this one weigh? The formula, this is the 518 or s18?
>> Dwayne: I think this one's about 27 pounds.
>> Court: 27 pounds?
>> Dwayne: Maybe even 25.
>> Court: Okay, well, and I notice that these ones actually have metal pedals that fold,
and I've ridden a number of other electric bikes, sometimes the plastic is a little bit
more flexible and you don't get quite that power. So that's a really cool feature. And
I've spent time on this one in particular. In 2014 they're coming out with an electric
version, the e18 from Dahon, and it's just, it feels like riding a normal bike. I mean
they've actually captured the way the seat goes up, the angle of the handle bars, it's
pretty comfortable even with those ergonomic grips there. So I like these, and what was
the price range on, kind of, the higher end one here?
>> Dwayne: This one's about 1400.
>> Court: 1400 bucks.
>> Dwayne: So these start around 500 bucks and go up from there. And they ride like you
were saying, they ride great. You almost have to look down and say, "wait, am I riding a
smaller folding bike?" Because you forget that you're riding that size.
>> Court: You made a good point, you know, if you're someone who has a boat or maybe
a plane and you're going on a road trip or something, this is really the way to go and
they fold up real small and nice, and then they've got this magnet here so when you fold
it in half they don't come unfolded. And, gosh, the range on this one, it has got quite
a few speeds to choose from. So yeah, a great option. Dahon makes good bikes. Thank you
so much, Dwayne.
>> Dwayne: Thank you.
