Hello everyone, this is Max and welcome for this Dota 2’s character introduction video,
today we will talk about the cooldowns’ mechanic : Tinker.
Tinker is a very special intelligence hero.
He’s really useful to gank during early game thanks to his powerful nukes.
However you’ll see his real potential during late game
because both his mobility and his ability to farm are unrivaled.
He’s vulnerable in early game though, so he will be a primary target for the gankers.
His first skill is Lazer.
It deals damage and blinds the enemy, making him fail his attacks during 2 seconds.
The damage goes up from 80 to 320 at max level are true damage,
so non affected by the 25% magic resistance that all heroes of the game have.
320 true damage represents 425 magic damage,
which makes Lazer one of the best nukes of the game (if we don’t take the ultimates in account of course).
Tinker’s second ability is Heat Seeking Missile.
He launches two missiles that target every visible hero in range.
If only one enemy is in range, a single missile will be launched,
dealing damage from 100 up to 325 depending on the skill level.
The particularity of that skill, except the double target mechanic, is its range.
The range is 2500 at every level, meaning up to 4 or 5 more than every classical nuke of the game.
So you can be a part of team moves without being even visible for your opponent.
March of the Machines creates a mechanical robots wave in a large area for a 5 seconds period.
The robots are invulnerable and simply cross the area of effect dealing damage to targets on their way.
The damage start at 16 at level 1 and increase of 8 at every level, making a total of 40 at max level.
Even if the cooldown is of 35 seconds, using this spell in conjunction with the ultimate is really effective to farm.
Let’s now talk about THE ability that makes Tinker a so special and strong hero : Rearm.
This skill simply resets all Tinker’s cooldowns.
It can be those of his spells or of his items (there are some exceptions though).
For example it’s impossible to rearm Hand of Midas, Black King Bar or Arcane Boots.
Rearm has no cooldown of course, but it’s a channeling spell.
The channeling time is of 3 seconds at level 1 and decreases of 1 second at every level.
The mana cost is prohibitive. 150 at level 1, then 250 and finally 350 at max level.
It’s not a so useful skill in early game, since it takes a long moment to activate it and that the mana cost is huge.
During the early game however, with some Boots of Travel, it gives a really amazing mobility and ability to farm.
It’s pretty simple to picture the thing.
Tinker teleports on a lane, uses March of the Machines in direction of the creeps, then Rearm,
March of the Machines once again and port back to the fountain.
You then just have to do it again on another lane.
It’s also really useful to harass the opponents.
You can port on a lane, use your Heat Seeking Missile, Rearm, use again your missile,
and port back to the fountain.
Of course, you can do that indefinitely :D !
During late game, with the proper stuff, Tinker is an army by himself.
Your opponents will do whatever it takes to prevent you to be able to do all that though.
Tinker is a hero that is generally played on a solo lane.
Other options are not recommended.
He’s pretty hard to play because he’s squeeshy, but the early game skill build is pretty easy to get.
Upgrade alternatively Lazer and Heat Seeking Missile, until both spells are at max level,
and give the priority to Lazer.
Don’t even take your ultimate at level 6 since it’s completely useless at this stage
because you don’t have Boots of Travel yet, but take it at level 9.
Then upgrade March of the Machines. This way you’ll farm the creeps waves easier and reach easily your level 16.
Only take your second level of Rearm at level 14 though.
Let’s talk about the equipment now.
Take 2 Mantles of Intelligence, 2 Iron Branches, a set of Tangos and a Healing Salve.
If your team bought a Courier and that you want to rush your Bottle,
3 Mantles of Intelligence and a set of Tangos can also be an option.
Never start a game (I mean, never ever) with simply a Bottle,
because without stats and having a regeneration dependant of the runes, you’ll be waaaaay to vulnerable.
Your choices of items during the early game are restrained.
Your first objective as a mid laner hero, is to quickly farm a Bottle and Boots of Speed to gank on the side lanes.
Then, thanks to your kills and with your farm, upgrade as fast as possible your Boots of Speed into Boots of Travel.
If it’s impossible for you to farm your Boots of Travel,
participate as much as you can in team moves and take either Power Treads or Mana Boots.
Once you got your Travel Boots, you can also buy a Soul Ring to make it easier to manage your mana points.
You can complete that set of items with some Null Talismans built thanks to your Mantles of Intelligence.
It will increase your survivability and your total of mana points.
When you have all that, you’ll be at a stage of the game where you will farm A LOT
and be able to buy really fast some good stuff.
Scythe of Vyze and Shiva’s Guard are the best options.
Build Shiva first of you have secure the late game, because you’ll be able to rearm it and it will facilitate your farm.
However, if your allies are in trouble, buy the Scythe first.
With those 2 items, you’ll probably become a primary target for the enemies.
A good item increasing your survivability like Linken’s Sphere can then come in handy, especially against casters.
A Blink Dagger, or even a Force Staff for more experienced players can also be great choices.
If you need more burst, buy a Dagon 5 and you’ll then complete your stuff with Manta Style or Eye of Skadi.
To conclude, just notice that it can be interesting to buy a Manta Style first,
since it gives a good protection against your worst enemy : the silence.
If you’re facing Bloodseeker or Night Stalker, think about it.
Here we are,
it’s over for Tinker (yeah yeah... it rhymes).
