Marine VHF Radio tips brought to you by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
Now if you are going to boat these days chances are it will have one of these
in it Nick, it's a Marine VHF Radio and it is very good.
It is very good. The reason it is very good is because of
the massive range of base and repeater stations
which are situated all around the Australian coastline.
And in most places we go boating that network is monitored 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Predominantly, however, they are monitoring the emergency channel and that
is Channel 16.
So get in to the habit of always having your VHF Radio on in tune to 16 because it
means you become part of the listening network enabling you to hear
and potentially respond to any distress calls and most importantly if you find yourself
in any trouble call for help on 16 and other boats and rescue services will hear
you call and be open to respond quickly.
And so remember if you are out in a boat enjoying a day on the water always have
your radio turned on. And always turn to Channel 16.
