In the nineteen forties,
there was a cute little guy, an actor at 20th Century Fox named Lon McCallister.
He had a cute little turned-up nose.
And so the second day in English class,
he walked in front of me.
I was on second row, he was on first.
He had this cute little turned-up nose and I said, "Hmmm,
He looks like Lon McCallister."
And so I decided, that's who I wanna go with!
Well,
in those days, you know, the girls don't ask the boys, so,
I started going out the wrong door and dropping my
books in front of him and doing all sorts of things and,
he never noticed me.
Never noticed me.
So one day I was late and I was in the,
in the cafeteria.
A girl from my floor came by and she said, "Don't faint,
but would you like a date with Bill King?" I said
"Yeah I think I would!"
And so she gave up her date
with him
so i could go with him. --Who was that?
Uh, Jolynn Cornelius. --Oh.
Well,
He came to
pick me up, and he had on a leather jacket and cowboy boots, and he sang "Cigarettes and Whiskey and Wild Wild Women".
We were having a...
Marquis Hall
dance the next night.
My uh...
high school boyfriend I had asked and he couldn't go.
I asked the boy had known back in the 40s,
and he couldn't go.
So, there I was without a date, but I'd just met this guy...
So I said, "Would you like to go to the Marquis- Terrill Dance tomorrow night?"
And he said yes and we've been dating ever since.
We got married in '54.
between my junior and senior year in medical school. --Here in Denton.
He says he never asked me to marry him, he meant to go to a movie.
She misunderstood.
