Before installing the USGS Shoreline Management Tool, please be aware that the application
does require that you have both Esri™ ArcGIS™ and Microsoft® Office® installed. If you
do not have these required programs, you will not be able to successfully run this application.
Now, installing the USGS Shoreline Management Tool takes only a few minutes.
First, download the zip file for the Shoreline Tool, and accompanying documentation from
the USGS publication website. Once you've downloaded the package, unzip the files to
a directory of your choice. We recommend using a "users" file directory. The Shoreline Management
Tool is a Microsoft Add-in that typically requires no administrative rights for installation
and, therefore, can be easily shared among users.
Next, open Esri™ ArcMap™. Within ArcMap, choose the Customize option along the Main
Menu toolbar. Under Customize, select the Add-In Manager. An Add-in Manager popup window
will appear. Choose the Options tab. Here is where you will search for the Shoreline
Directory on your machine. Select add folder and then you will navigate to where you had
the Shoreline Directory stored. Once you've done that click on the Add-Ins Tab and you'll
see the Shoreline Add-in Tool has been added to the Add-in Manager. Next, you'll want to
customize. Click on that button. And then under the Customize popup menu choose Commands
Tab. After a few seconds different categories will populate and you are going to look for
the Add-In Controls. Select Add-In Controls and you'll see the Shoreline Management Tool.
Simply drag-and-drop to somewhere on one of your toolbars and close. And there you have
it you have now successfully installed the Shoreline Management Tool on your Windows
machine. In order to run the Shoreline Management Tool,
you next need to input the necessary datasets. An example dataset for the Wood River Wetland
in southern Oregon is provided for these tutorials. For more information on the installation,
data input, or operations please refer to the User's Manual that is provided with the
application.
