SARAH HAUER: Hi, I'm Sarah Hauer. SIG HAUER: And I'm Sig Hauer and we're professional practitioners
of traditional Chinese medicine. SARAH HAUER: We're here on behalf of Expert Village. SIG
HAUER: And welcome to our video. SIG HAUER: We're now going to demonstrate "Tui Na," which
is often referred to as Chinese massage. Tui Na literally means "push-pull," and which,
as you see, her massage will very much explain that. She's using a liniment with this that's
called "Po Sum On." It's our favorite liniment, has a mint base to it, penetrates into the
muscles, and is very good at helping the muscles to relax and release tension. And she's using
nice, soft strokes here, as you can see. There are different methods we use in Tui Na; obviously,
the nice, soft strokes is one of those, and she will get a little bit more specific as
she moves on with this where she's plucking certain points or certain tendons or plucking
a muscle; she will sometimes pinch as though she's pulling the skin and the muscle apart.
So those are some of the methods we use as we do Tui Na. Our patients get very spoiled
with this, and once we do it, it's--I think we have to do it every time after that or
the patient gets mad with us. SARAH HAUER: Is that right, Ellen? ELLEN: Yeah. SIG HAUER:
After--we typically do this after we've needled a person, the person gets so relaxed after
a needle session that the Tui Na, the Chinese massage, they're so relaxed and open to that.
SARAH HAUER: We can go-- SIG HAUER: We probably shouldn't say this but we don't have to work
real hard. SARAH HAUER: And we can go a lot deeper. We can do a lot more therapy with
our hands after acupuncture because the body is so much more open. So we can do a deeper
balancing. SIG HAUER: The Tui Na, we do the Tui Na just at a specific area of the body.
Here, you see that Sarah's working on Ellen's back and shoulders and neck. This is an area
which is very common for people to hold tension. A lot of people working on the computer, doing
paperwork, tend to scrunch their shoulders and hunch their neck and just tighten things
up and this is very good at helping to relieve that as well.
