A patriot and humanitarian, Dr. Larry Walker has led a life of compassion and
service. From his early days in the East Texas State College biology department,
Dr. Walker set his sights on easing the pain of others. He realized his dream
when he graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1962.
Dr. Walker put his promising residency at Baylor College of Medicine on hold and
put into practice real-life compassion in war-torn Vietnam as commander of the
B company 23rd medical battalion. In addition to treating combat
casualties the 23rd battalion trained Vietnamese health workers to
assume medical responsibilities for their hamlets and villages. Returning
from Vietnam Dr. Walker completed his residency and went into private practice
in general surgery as a member of the Nacogdoches San Augustine Counties
Medical Society and proceeded to hold many prestigious posts in a variety of
medical association's. Presently Dr. Walker is the medical director of
hospice of Deep East Texas, Chief of Surgery of Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, and
Vice President of the board of directors for Nacogdoches County Hospital District.
