This competition is about
bringing together México’s best climbers (Diego Gonzá*** 11 years climbing)
to work on really challenging boulders.
We have given them the opportunity to try the boulders first, (Mauricio Huerta 13 years climbing)
and now they have a time limit to complete each boulder.
(Iván Monroy Competition Organizer)
Nothing motivates me more than climbing.
To me, you know, it is everything.
It’s simply who I am.
I don’t know myself in any other way but when I’m climbing.
It’s what I think about all the time,
what excites me the most and what makes me happy.
Climbing is very important in my life
because it has helped me to evolve as a person.
To be one of the participants in this competition…
...well, it’s a big deal.
It’s nice to know
that people consider me one of México’s best climbers.
You spend so many years climbing,
and then you see the results, you know?
To me, I’ve never cared much for competing
so I really try to take it as something more casual.
Well, to me this competition is very fulfilling,
masure oneself against the best is always very motivating.
I think that with such nice people involved in this experience
I had nothing to lose and a lot to gain.
What makes climbing so important
or the most important thing for me?
It takes me a lot of hard work
and that’s why I enjoy it.
I think it’s about challenging yourself,
trying to face your fears…
I don’t know, people often ask me
how to improve, how to be better…
I always tell them to climb a lot,
travel a lot,
climb with various people,
and really get into the climbing scene.
When I first started climbing
what really impressed me
was the atmosphere.
It is very relaxing.
I think that’s something unique about climbing.
What Onix has done
as a climbing gym
has no precedent in México.
I personally think it is the best climbing gym in the country.
think one of its entrepreneurs,
Javier Canché,
was very insightful in developing
a gym for climbing training.
To me it is
the best climbing gym
and it is a reference for all the others.
This kind of competition is really nice
because it motivates people
to get into the world of climbing.
In my case I enjoy being here with my friends…
I came to have a good time,
to be with my friends and compete a little.
I think it is great
and I think it is one of the best
– if not the best – that I’ve seen here in México.
I think the level of difficulty
already can be compared with international competitions.
I remember when,
I don’t know, three or four years ago,
I would come to compete
and honestly I would very easily win.
Now I have to work very hard to win it.
Mauricio Huerta First place
Santiago de Alba Second place
Diego Gonzá*** Third place
