Welcome to "Setting Up and Using an ILLiad Account."
This tutorial will help show you how get materials that are not available in Cook Library or
through a Cook Library subscription. Although we can borrow many things from other
libraries, some materials may not be available. Allow time for requests to be filled. You
might receive an article within a few days or a book within a week!
However, it could take a week for an article and over two weeks for a book. The loan period
is generally about two weeks. To set up an interlibrary loan account, click
on the Illiad login. Once you have an Illiad account, this is where
you log in to it. Click on "First Time Users".
After reading about the account... ...scroll down to the bottom of the screen
and click on "First Time Users Click Here". Click here if you need your 14-digit library
bar code to register for an account. Fill in all required fields which are indicated
by a red asterisk. Journal articles will be delivered to your
account as pdfs. List your local address as Primary Address.
Choose a status. Choose your major as a department.
There are no specific security requirements for a username and password and it will never
change. To access your ILLiad account, go to the Cook
Library website. There are forms for requesting different types
of materials. Access articles you requested that have arrived,
here. You can track the status of outstanding requests
and for those that you have requested in the past.
This is where you update any information such as a new address or phone number.
When you are using a library database, you may discover that the library doesn't own
an article when you click on "Find It". If it is not available online or does not
say "Check Availability in Towson University Library", (which means we may have it in print),
click on "Request It". You will be prompted to login to your ILLiad
account. Once you do, you will see that a request form has been automatically filled
except the end page of the article. So add it....
...and submit the request. If you lose or forget you ILLiad username
or password, you must contact the Interlibrary Load Department.
Before placing an Interlibrary Loan, make sure to first check for availability of items
like books and conference proceedings in the USMAI Catalog and for journals in the Cook
Library Journal List. You can do this through the Cook Library website.
Searching for a book by title in the USMAI Catalog is usually the most direct way to
check. When looking for a journal article ....type the TITLE of the JOURNAL in which
the article is found. That concludes "Setting Up and Using an ILLiad
Account". If you have questions about this or your research,
contact a Reference Librarian as indicated here or through "Ask a Librarian" from the
Cook Library website.
