My name is Brandon Sarkis on behalf of Expert Village. Today I'm going to show you how to
actually make eggnog and stop buying that nasty stuff in the carton at the grocery store.
Okay, well there's not a whole lot we need in the way of equipment, so to speak, today.
So let's just get right to it here. Obviously a towel is always good to have. Just to make
sure if you make a mess, you can wipe it up immediately. Clean as you go. Other than that,
let's see, a spatula. These will come in handy later on when we go to fold the egg whites
in and also when we're getting the eggs out of the container and mixing them up together.
So very handy to have that. Probably your most important item for the day is a whisk.
I do this by hand. You can do this in a mixer, but I don't feel as though you have the same
level of control. This is just a regular old stainless steel whisk. You can use a plastic
one if you want. I just think you get better results with the metal ones. And if you're
going to use a metal whisk, you're going to want to use a plastic bowl. The reason why,
is actually you're going to need to use two plastic bowls for today. The reason why you
want to use a metal whisk with a plastic bowl or vice versa, a plastic whisk with a metal
bowl, is cause if you use metal on metal and you're sitting here doing this. What's happening
is every time you do this you're slowly but surely grinding metal against metal. And you'll
actually effect what you're cooking with. If you don't believe me, sometimes you can
actually try whipping a heavy cream in a metal bowl, a stainless bowl with a stainless whip,
you'll see it actually turns kind of a weird grayish color. So that's why I typically use
plastic bowls. I use metal bowls for raw ingredients. Plastic bowls for whipping stuff up. If I'm
trying to achieve a peak state. If I'm not, if I'm just mixing stuff together, metal on
metal is fine. But if I'm actually working with something that's white, something that
I want to stay white or something that I don't want to have a reaction with, I will actually
use plastic and metal. So, a little knowledge there for you. Let's go ahead and move on
and separate our eggs. That's our first step in our process.
