The twisted wreckage of a crane at a construction site in Singapore. Two people killed and three
others injured after it collapsed at the site of the new National Art Gallery. Witnesses
say the concrete slabs, that act as a counterbalance on the back end of the crane, fell off as
it was attempting to lift some building materials. N Rajah, a security guard who works nearby:
"What I see was, there was a very loud *** noise - like an aircraft had crashed down.
And then, I saw the workers all started to run to the back of this building. I thought
it is going to be more serious, so I ran together with them. They were screaming. Very fast,
everything was under control. Police was here, Civil Defence was here."
The crane's part of a $422 million project to turn the 80-year-old former Supreme Court
building into the National Art Gallery. The workers who were killed or injured are believed
to be Bangladeshi and Thai. Just the latest accident on site. In July, another crane tilted
with part of it falling into the street, reportedly just missing cars driving by.
