Anchor>>Star power at RIT tonight! Daymond John of the ABC show "Shark Tank" shared his
story and his challenges and his past success. Kelsie Smith in the newsroom now with what
the "Shark" had to say - Kelsie: Reporter>> Well Don, Daymond John is best
known for being the founder of the clothing line "FUBU". He told of his journey and gave
key tips to success - including: education & doing what you love.
Daymond>>Remember:You are the brand. We invest in you.You have to be able to go home tonight
and put your personal brand into 2 to 5 words. Reporter: Daymond John did that in four words:
For Us By Us. Best known as "FUBU" the fashion line he started in his mother's home.
Student>> And I really thought it was inspirational because he made money for his family and that's
kinda like one of my main mottos is: family comes first.
Daymond>> You will remain a shark or you will become a shark
Reporter>> Speaking at RIT was fitting for Daymond John saying education is a key to
success. Daymond>> If you don't have knowledge on how
to educate yourself - and what to do with the money and how to diversify your portfolio
or what not to do... you gonna end up like... athletes, ball players... people that had
massive amounts of income and massive amounts of opportunity, but because of their lack
of financial intelligence and their lack of a formal education... ended up where they
started. Student>> I love that he said: It takes just
as much energy for your to think about a small goal as it does to think about a big goal.
So why not go bigger? Reporter>> As a fellow entrepreneur and Shark
Tank fan, Michelle Roberts says she's valued the opportunity to learn from and meet a "Shark".
Student>> So to be persistent - incredibly persistent - and believe in what you do - and
love it. Reporter>> Love it - words echoed by Daymond
John Daymond>> You can work something for money
for one year and you will be miserable - and you can do something you love for 20 years
and you'll be happy. Reporter>> Daymond John also touched on social
media saying: it's an important part of your brand. So make sure all posts reflect that
brand - even if you think the account is personal. In the newsroom I'm Kelsie Smith.
Anchor>> Alright! BIG Weekend at local colleges. Wow!
