Chapter 6 Playing Ball
After the baby elephants enjoyed their afternoon bottles of milk and took a much needed rest,
it was time to play their usual afternoon game of ball with the humans!
"Would you like to play with us Hamilton", asked Ginger Root
"Ok", said Hamilton. "What do I do?"
"Just kick the ball a little", Ginger Root told him.
"Meow", Milo said from atop a nearby fence post that was situated next to where Amelia
was standing. "Use your paws!", she shouted to him
Hamilton remembered what "using your paws" meant, so he used his front leg and foot to
kick the ball.
"Yay! Yay!", the elephants cheered.
"Good. I'll kick the ball now", Ginger Root said.
Hamilton watched. Ginger Root kicked the ball and then Beet Bottom kicked it. And then,
one of the humans kicked it. Soon, the baby elephants and humans had formed teams and
were taking turns kicking the ball. And then they were running and kicking the ball!
Hamilton had never ran before but he wanted to try because it looked fun. so he did. At
first, he started out slow. But as he got the hang of how to run, he ran a little faster,
and kicked the ball while doing it.
"Oh! This is fun", he thought to himself as he kicked the ball again
He looked at his friends Milo and Amelia, who watched and commentated from the sidelines.
"Meow!", Milo said.
"Good job.", shouted Amelia "Trunks up! Keep running!"
The baby elephants continued to play ball with the humans for a little while longer,
and then the game was done. Soon it would be time for the evening feeding, time for
a little more light play, and then time to bed down for the night.
