This database can be used to analyze and compare global economies, companies, and industries.
It provides current financial, market share, and investment reports on private and public
companies and industries worldwide including Canada. You can search by keyword, company
name, ticker symbol, industry description, product or brand name, or a topic in the large
search box at the top of the screen.
S1: In today's example, we are investigating the grocery industry in Canada and want to
learn more about Loblaws. So type "Loblaw" in the search box and click search. The results
page will include company, country or industry profiles which include your search term "Loblaw".
Click on the first result for Loblaw under Company Profiles. You will see company, financial,
and contact information. In the Related Content section on the right, you can access more
detailed financial information, investment, and market share reports as well as journal
articles. Above the related reports, you can also view reports on the relevant industry.
Note the NAICS, North American Industry Classification System code. In this case it is 445110. This
will help searching later.
S1: To find industry information, click on the Industries tab at the top of the page.
Browse an alphabetical list of industries or search by industry name or by NAICS code.
You will find the number of companies and employees in the industry, the top companies,
their revenue, and more. Industry essays are generally 10 to 20 pages in length. If you
want to do a comparison of companies, countries or industries, use the Comparison Charts feature
at the far right of the toolbar. You can compare up to six countries, companies or industries
in your chart. Choose Companies from the drop-down menu. Let's compare Loblaws, Sobeys, and Metro
in terms of revenue. Click on the Add Remove button and type in the names of the companies.
