This video was shown how to install the Mozilla Firefox web browser,
the Zotero citation and reference add-in, and the word processor integration plugin for Zotero.
This demonstration is being done on Windows 7 with Microsoft Word 2007, but will work with Mac and linux systems
and with open source word processors such as OpenOffice.
First, open any browser.
In this case I'm using Internet Explorer9.
In the address bar, type "Mozilla.org.
Enter.
This brings you to the Firefox download site.
Since this video is focused on using Firefox for research purposes,
and since many internationally important academic papers are published in English,
I recommend installing an English version of Firefox.
From the Firefox download page, select "Systems and Languages" underneath the download button.
Here you can choose the language,
and again, I recommend English for research purposes.
You can also choose
the system that you use- Windows, Mac or Linux.
Once the Forefox
installer has opened, follow the instructions to install on your computer.
I always choose the standard as installation.
If you do not want to use Firefox for your default browser,
or if you only want to use it for research,
de-select the "Use Firefox as my default web browser" box,
and click install to continue.
Once the installation is complete,
you have the opportunity to launch Firefox. Click finish.
If you don't want to import any of your bookmarks, histories, passwords, or any other data from Internet Explorer,
click "Don't import anything,"
and click next.
Once the Firefox web browser is open,
you can de-select
Firefox as your default web browser,
and then maximize the window.
At this point you can also close
Internet Explorer.
The first page that you'll see is the Firefox home page.
From this page you can explore Firefox and see some of the things that Firefox will do.
I'm going to close this page,
and go to the Firefox home page.
In the upper left hand corner,
click the orange Firefox drop-down menu
and click "Add-ons."
On the get add-ons page, in the upper right
where it says "Search all add-ons" type "Zotero."
The most recent version of Zotero will be the top choice.
Click "install."
You will need to restart Firefox in order to complete the installation of Zotero.
Click "Restart now."
If you're successful you'll see use the Zotero home page.
You do not need to register to use Zotero.
You can also tell if you've successfully installed Zotero because in the lower right corner
there's the word "zotero."
From this page, go to "Download the Word or OpenOffice plugin" under 'Quick links."
When the documentation window opens
choose "Installation."
On the installation plugin page, choose
the word processor that you're going to use.
I'm going to choose Word for Windows.
I'm going to allow the installation,
and click install.
Again, you need to restart Firefox for the installation to be complete.
Now you can close this window,
and even close the"Add-ons Manager" window.
With the Mozilla Firefox start page open,
open your word processor.
You can tell if you have successfully installed the integration tool by clicking
"Ad-ins,"
and you'll see in "Custom Toolbars"
is a Zotero custom toolbar.
This means that Zotero and your word processor
