The first thing I did was stick a notice up on the wall
in the development area that said
the person who says it can’t be done
shouldn’t interrupt the person doing it.
And that’s been our motto ever since.
The project is aimed at delivering, to both the insurance industry
and via the customer portal to the broader general public,
access to their own driver licence information.
There’s optimism, there’s excitement,
it’s moved much faster than things we’ve done in the past.
The message after 4 months is, yeah you know,
the processes are very different, the approach is very different,
but it’s new, and what we’re getting from it is a lot of positivity.
We’ve been doing things pretty much the same way
in the programme and project environment for a number of years.
So I think it’s really exciting for the people working in projects
to see how quickly you can move and how quickly you can do other things.
Don’t be afraid to make decisions because there’s always the opportunity then
to change if something hasn’t quite worked out how you planned.
You can read umpteen textbooks and you can listen to umpteen lecturers
telling you how to do it, but just crack on and do it.
Be flexible, and be ready for change because it’s the new way of working.
An example is […] procurement.
You can’t procure in less than a year.
Yes you can do it in 26 days.
You can’t internally approve a business case in less than 2-3 months.
Yes we can, we can do it in 10 days.
You can’t set up development environments in less than 8 weeks.
Yes we can, we can do it in 5 days.
