-begin tonight with a developing story: a marine under arrest at logan for carrying a loaded
gun and other weapons on board. good evening everyone, i'm mark ockerbloom. and i'm allison bologna.
that marine was on his way here from las vegas. fox25's diana rocco is live at logan airport with more.
diana?
allison and mark, that marine had taken a redeye early this morning from las vegas and
was laid over here at logan.
when he went to board a connecting flight to charlotte, he had to re-check his bags
and when baggage handler's looked inside, what they found
was a small arsenal.
a united states marine, on his way back to camp lejune in north carolina, won't be going
home anytime soon.
police say 22-year-old justin reed tried to board a US airways flight at eight this morning
with a loaded gun and explosives. "it's frightening" - "it's pretty scary y'know with all the tsa stuff going on, with all the baggage checking, they send your bags through the x-rays."
police say reed had taken a
redeye from vegas and had a layover here at logan.
he was separated from his bags and had to re-check them before boarding a US airways
flight to charlotte.
that's when baggage screeners found the gun, rounds of ammunition and enough to make an
explosive device. a grenade fuse & detonator, explosive mixture and numerous switches.
"he shouldn't have been traveling with those explosives." - "it definitely makes me question, like, what he might have been doing & what his intentions were."
travelers at logan can't believe reed was able to make it all the way from vegas and
are now questioning airport security practices. "it's pretty scary...
in this day & age you think they would have worked all of that out." "they should have caught it before he
got that far."
"it's people's lives, y'know. scary.'
tsa has released this statement tonight saying "we are investigating the situation.
the tsa notified state police at the discovery of the weapons. the tsa is investigating with
in conjunction with the state police
and the las vegas tsa management." now reed has been charged with possession of an 'infernal
machine' and attempting to put an explosive device on it aircraft. he's been held on
$50,000 bond and will see a judge on tuesday.
we're live tonight at logan airport. i'm diana rocco, fox25 news.
