Hi and welcome to my starting out series, today we'll be looking at Visual kei, which
is the punk style of Japan. Look at who you admire on the Visual kei music
scene, for me its Hizaki, so you can see the roses and feminine influence in my look.
Music is what visual kei is all about, so dont forget before you dive into Visual kei,
make sure your familiar with its music scene My look today is very simple and suitable
for a beginner to Visual kei, First choosing your outfit is key. Here I'm wearing a Japanese
brand called Ozz on. Visual kei is not neccesarilly dark, it has
a lot of colour, but with a dark vibe. There is a clear punk influence with, skulls, leopard
prints, stripes, studs, webs, skulls, crowns, the list is endless, just look at the people
who inspire you and take ques from that. Accessories are a must, here I've chosen a
cross neckalce with quite a few chains, to add some texture to my outfit. Next I'm going
to put on this extra leather belt, around my underbust to add just a few more layers
because if you notice, Visual kei is quite a layered fashion and whilst I'm sticking
to blacks, you don't neccessarily have to be in black, like I said Visual kei is a colourful
fashion and the choice is totally up to you. there aren't many rules and I just choose
to do a black combination. You can see that I've added on some small chains onto my shoulders.
You can add tiny bits like this to add an interesting dimension to your outfit.
Next is make-up, make-up is absolutely key in the Visual kei style.First apply a base
layer of foundation with a very good coverage, don't forget to blend it properly into your
jawline, and don't get any streaks. I use a sponge because you get a lot more foundation
on with your sponge, and you'll look a lot more flawless, because visual kei is a style
which has quite thick make-up. Next I'm going to use my favourite concealer
by Lancome, make sure you get a very good concealer, because Visual kei style doesn't
have very many flaws, and if you like me have dark circles under your eyes or blemishes,
you really need to get a good coverage on it and I find this little Lancome one is absolutely
perfect for me. So conceal under your eyes, use it as a bit
of highligher, on your eyelids, on your cheekbones, your nose, around your mouth, wherever you
feel like you need coverage. Next don't forget to set your make-up with a powder, I'm using
a translucent powder so I have a bit of depth and shimmer to my face and its no completely
matt. If you have a oily T-zone which is your mouth,
your nose, across your eyebrows, dont forget to put extra powder where you get oily.
Next start off with a light -base shadow that matches your skin-tone and apply it all across
your eye-lid. The next thing you want to do is choose your next colour up, in my case
I'm going with kind of dark brows and greys and eventually black, so my next colour up
is a medium brown and apply it onto the outer half of your eyelid.
Then take your darkest shade, black or whatever it is and apply it into the crease of your
eye lids. Here I'm adding some purple eye-liner underneath
my waterline to make my eyes look bigger. Eye liner is very important in Visual kei
make-up, you'll notice very often that the eye-liner is quite thick and big but seeing
as I'm doing my own take on it I'm going to apply it in a much more feminine way.
Next you want to apply false lashes, if you don't already have full lashes, otherwise
just skip it and go onto Mascara like i have. Choose a mascara that has lots of volume and
is lengthening, because Visual kei styles often have very stand out lashes, next line
your waterline with white eye-liner like I am here.
Then take some eye-shadow of your darkest colour, and apply it into the lower corners
of your eyes, just to build up a bit more volume and bring that eye-shadow down. If
you need to make any adjustments to your eye shadow now like I'm just building up the darkest
shade a bit more, and any touch-ups with eye-liner , mascara now the times to do it.
if you have very thin eyebrows, fill them in with a dark-eye-shadow or eyebrow pencil.
My obvious choice would be Black lipstick to go with this outfit, being seeing as I'm
lacking in colour I'm going to use this gorgeous blue from Limecrime, its a gorgeous gloss
but its really pigmented and full of colour and its one of my favourite products.
okay so my hair, I'm going to cheat a bit because for the past few months I've been
avoiding heat-styling so I'm not going to style my hair and basically going to throw
it all up and just bobby pin it in place. i suggest you look at who you idolize in Visual
kei and take a hairstyle from them and re-create it. Make sure you put plenty of hair spray
on and don't forget to accessorize. I'm going to go with this big blue flower clip to match
my lipstick. The flowers relate to hizaki so yeah, I'm taking inspiration from whoever
I admire in visual kei. I'm also adding these amazing leather gloves, because I think it
adds a good edge to the outfit. You now have your Visual kei outfit complete.
Most of all remember be confident in the style your in and don't listen to silly people!
