2 months ago Russia introduced a new anti-gay propaganda law
which makes it illegal
punishable by 15 days in prison including tourists
to be publicly gay.
Today we are shooting a film to raise awareness of the anti-gay propaganda law
which was bought in
in Russian two months ago and we're highlighting the olympics as a spotlight
to raise awareness of this together.
About 120 days from now the winter olympics will actually start in Russia
and so this film is about
telling the story that it actually doesn't matter
who you are or who you love
you should have the same right as everyone else
but unfortunately the russian government have made sure thats actually not possible.
Whats fantastic about making content to tell a message around the world
is that it can get involved hundreds of people
who can just give up their time for free to help and that is exactly what this project has done
and today like so many people have come along we've built a team of professionals
over 25 people have come along today each of them giving up their time
to help spread the message about what Russia is doing
about these laws and using creativity to tell that story
and to make a change in the world.
My name's Frankie, I am a professional ice skater
and tonight I'm the body double for Silvia the actress that is playing the ice skater
in the Olympic scene tonight.
My name is Colin Ratushniak and today I was doing the part
of the man in the partnership of the para team thats competing at the Sochi Olympics.
This project particularly appealed to me because it was marrying
ice skating with the ability or the privilege
too help raise awareness of LBGT community.
It can really transmit the message if we all work together
so I really wanted to a part of this message because it is something that
I believe in and I want to put my name my face my voice to it.
I am hoping the reaction from this video is
just going to cause people to think have a genuine
think about what is actually happening in other parts of the world.
And so together I think raising awareness
doing this film
hopefully it getting quite a lot of media attention
will get more and more people involved
and want to do something about it and want to speak up
the more people we can get the better then they kinda have to listen hopefully.
I think ideally what we would like to see is that
people engage with this film in the honest spirit that it was created
which is showing that love should be equal
and people need to be treated equally regardless of who they are or who they love.
